SHORT SYNOPSIS

TIGER TAIL in BLUE is about a young married couple, Christopher & Melody, that work opposite schedules to remain financially afloat as Chris bangs out his first novel while working nights as a waiter. Never seeing each other is taking its toll, as the two rarely get a chance to engage one another. Chris finds the attention he craves in the past and Brandy, a saucy co-worker.

SYNOPSIS

Chris, a young newlywed, waits tables all night and writes novels all day, obsessing over what little past he has to reflect on. His wife Melody, a high school English teacher, is in love with him, though his lifestyle poses a financial burden. The two work opposing schedules and rarely get to see one another, which is taking its toll. The film dips into the surreal, playing with the rhythms of the passing days of married life and the blurry lines of fantasy and commitment. Featuring a score by acclaimed jazz musicians John Medeski and Chris Speed, Tiger Tail in Blue, is a gentle ballad to putting your eggs in one basket, counting your chickens before they’re hatched, not being able to see the forest through the trees, and doing whatever you damn-well-please.

DIRETOR’S STATEMENT

My wife tells me I do my films a disservice by not talking about them. So, “Tiger tail” is a direct reference to the chocolate and glazed twist donuts Chris and Melody eat in the movie (and “in blue” is because I’ve always wanted to contribute to the “in blue” pieces of American art). This movie is about how times passes in life. The sweetest time being when you have somewhere to be, some obligation to tend to and instead you go get a donut with a pretty girl.

JOHN MEDESKI – COMPOSER John Medeski may be best known as one-third of Medeski Martin & Wood, but his full body of work goes far beyond that ground-breaking trio. Solo performer, leader of his own project the Itch, film composer, and producer, collaborator and sideman with countless other artists, Medeski has channeled this transformative force with uncanny power and imagination. A skilled composer and whirling-dervish improviser, he consistently wrings sonic revelations from acoustic and electric piano, Hammond organ, Clavinet, Mellotron, assorted synthesizers and other instruments. This is the second Ross film Medeski has scored the first was 2010’s “Audrey the Trainwreck.” CHRIS SPEED – COMPOSER Chris Speed (b. Seattle, Washington, 1967) is an American saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer. He studied classical piano from the age of five, and began clarinet at eleven. In high school he took up the tenor saxophone and began studying jazz. He later attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He leads or co-leads the groups Pachora, Human Feel, yeah NO, and Trio Iffy. He has appeared on about 70-80 recordings since 1990.
