One of the variants of the generations@school project in schools is the joint development of the initiative by European schools.

Collaborative intergenerational project between European schools

As part of the European Year 2012, the eTwin-ning European educational programme allows you to electronically connect with European schools that would like to swap information on intergenerational projects.

www.etwinning.net allows European schools to register on a database and to search for scho-ols that have the best possible match, in order to form educational, interdisciplinary, Europe-wide ICT-mediated partnerships for education and language learning to develop international exchanges.

We suggest using this platform to set up educational projects focusing on intergenerational and intercultural dialogue.

Objectives for pupils• To develop a dialogue on solidarity between

generations.

• To improve their ICT practices.

• To educate children to be curious about other cultures and other languages.

• To help raise awareness of citizenship in Europe and to integrate the wealth of language and culture within it.

• To develop the possibility of learning together, of sharing points of view and knowledge.

• To educate text-producing children.

Possible modes of implementationAfter the European Day, you can identify a school that has welcomed older people for the European Day on the eTwinning website, and put together a questionnaire with your pupils to swap information with a class of the same level.

• An initial class-to-class exchange is held to present the project: introductions of the schools, the classes and the pupils.

• A subsequent exchange of information on the intergenerational link between young and old is developed through intergenerational dialogue. Conversations about the European Day and the projects developed in class following the meeting with older people.

Carole Gadet, expert in intergenerational projects: Head of the association “Ensemble Demain” (www.ensembledemain.com), and Project Manager for “Intergenerational Approaches”, Académie de Paris and Studies Officer at the National Ministry of Education - France.

P.A.U. Education (www.paueducation.com) offers a unique mix of know-how, involving pedagogical thinking, editorial activity, community building and running cooperative projects in partnership with institutions such as the European Commission, UNESCO and UNICEF.
