We are so glad you’ve chosen to worship with us this week! Hearing assistance devices are available for the Sanctuary. Please see an usher to obtain these aids.

Enjoy fellowship, coffee, and snacks in the Family Life Center Gym between worship services.

Our Vision Christ-centered, multigenerational, family and community relevant ministries

through worship, discipleship, and mission.

Our Mission REACH, TEACH, and SEND

We REACH out to our congregation, community, and the world to TEACH the word of God as provided in the Holy Scripture, and SEND our members and

missionaries to be witnesses to God’s grace and His promise of eternal life to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Worship Services

Break Free Our Saturday evening service begins at 6:00 pm in the Family Life Center opening with a gathering and fellowship time at 5:30 pm. This transformational service involves modern music, multimedia, and a style of preaching that is practical and participatory.

Traditions At 8:00 and 11:00 am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00 service.

Connect At 9:30 Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns.

Freedom At 11:07 Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a non-traditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.

Welcome to Shalimar UMC

A Simple Game Plan for Facing Uncertainty

Every week we face some uncertainty. We can be intimidated by what we do not know or seek to grow with God through the unknown. I recently read about a simple two point strategy for facing the unknown. Isobel Kuhn was in China when it was overrun with communists in a time of Christian persecution. How did Isobel Kuhn make it through such an unknown time? They quickly adopted a two-fold strategy. First, cast out fear. Second, seek God’s light for the next step. What a simple game plan for facing uncertainty! Would this not work for us? When facing uncertainty? First, we need to cast out fear. Someone once counted that there are around 365 instances where the Bible says “fear not.” This means there is one teaching about casting out fear for every day of the year! One of my favorite passages about fear comes from Psalm 46:1-2a, “God is our refuge and strength, and ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear.” I cannot count the times quoting this passage helped others and myself move through fearful moments. The second part of the plan is to seek God’s light for the next step. Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp unto my feet, a light unto my path.” God’s light will illuminate the darkness of our world. Just last weekend, we experienced the darkness of hated which led to death and violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. We, the Church, deplore all forms of hated. We renounce hatred and all of its roots and fruits. In times of such hatred and divisions how do we go forward? We move forward when we put the teaching of Jesus into practice. We seek the light of the Scriptures like Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount teaching to “pray and love enemies.” This weekend we will hear a message when Jesus teaches, “Judge not lest you be judged.” The call of Jesus is to take the log out of your eye instead of seeing the speck in the other’s eye. If we lived this teaching our world would have less judgement, violence, hatred, and most of all more love. I commend this game plan for facing uncertainty. Let us cast out fear and seek God’s light this week. In fact, let us let our light shine for Jesus this week.

Most Americans are involved either personally or financially in helping others through charity. This is a core American value and central to our national character. A major fault of most charity is that it does something for the recipient with a one-size-fits all design. What are needed are projects which bring practical change to the recipient through their skills, experiences and abilities. Lee Jackson will lead this seven session book study starting Monday, Sept. 11th, 6-7:00 pm.

Let us ask a difficult question....???? Are YOU able to relate?

We are all looking to have healthier, more meaningful relationships, so where do we start?

Have you ever wondered why the Gospel of John is so different from the other three Gospels? Maybe you’ve never noticed. John looks at Jesus’ life and ministry through a different perspective, his perspective. The way he tells Jesus’ story is very relevant to us today.

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 12th, join Pastor Faith as she teaches the Life of Jesus through John’s eyes. This 6-week group study will be a combination of teaching and discussion. If you choose, she will provide 3-5 pages of reading before group so you can have something to think about and discuss when you come in. This study is also a requirement for Pastor Faith’s ordination. It’s a wonderful opportunity to try this group for the first time and come support her in her education journey. If you have questions or want to participate, you can email Pastor Faith at [email protected]. You can also text her at 850-420-9888.

“Let us not love with words or speech but with action and truth” 1 John 3:18

Did you know that within our church we have a mission called The Faith Backpack Program? Since 2008, over 35 faithful members have supported this mission with their time and talents to ease weekend hunger of children attending Shalimar Elementary and Meigs Middle School. These children are identified through their schools’ guidance department as high risk for food insecurity. Each Wednesday during the school year our volunteers pack 65 bags containing two meals and deliver them to the schools. Knowing these children have food for the weekend is a huge comfort and is often what carries them over until their school lunches the following week. The funding for this mission does not come from the church’s annual budget. It is funded by private donations from the incredible members of our church over and above their annual giving. Should you feel led to help - donations are always accepted by contacting the church office or through placing your donation in Sunday’s offering plate. Interested in volunteering for this rewarding ministry! Feel free to contact Tracey Bethea with any questions you might have at [email protected] or 865-4681. Please see our bulletin board in FLC just inside the entry doors!
