This is why our kids are AMAZING…
On Friday I had the ABSOLUTE pleasure to be a part of the 2019 Rick Annal, memorial Have A
Go Bike Camp. Thirty one grade four students, two grade six students (Bike Ed Leaders) and
seventeen adults excitedly made their way to Buffalo carpark. On the way it did begin to rain so
they did have to deal with my ‘shrieks’ as my hair went frizzy.
We set off, after I had the first stack on my bike to ride the first leg- twelve kilometres into Fish
Creek for lunch.
Twelve kilometres came and went so fast! Before we knew it we were fed and watered and back
riding after a little play at the MARVELLOUS playground of course.
We then rode the remaining eleven kilometres into Foster, I may have been the last at
approximately 4pm.
We were taken on a detailed
tour of the grounds, I took a
few notes for our School- look
out Tim, BIG PLANS! After
that it was onto rest…
ummmmmm NOT even
close, Basketball wars began!
Thanks to a couple of competitive members of our group- Not
mentioning names Cooper,
Nick or Rob the battle began!
I’m very pleased to report that
the grins were bigger than the
blood trails which is always a
positive sign and, I’m sure my
team (that adopted me late to
the battle) won
After a yummy dinner of
sausages in bread- my favourite! We were off to bed, trying to beat the
mozzies and ready for ‘story time with Sarah’
‘Sam desperately
wanted to fit in. But
fitting in is difficult
when you are terribly
shy, twice as tall as the
other kids, and
extremely clumsy.
Just when Sam thought
the taunts would
become too much to bear, he finds hope through
the wisdom of Jess.
Jess shows Sam just what courage looks like and how it can be found in the most unlikely place.
This encouragement gives Sam the strength to stand up to be the best that he can be.’

This was an uplifting story
and one that was the
essence of Rick. Rick was
hope and encouragement for
many through his actions
and attitude.
The following morning we were all up and about early. We
departed Foster Primary School at
9am and headed back the eleven
kilometres to Fish Creek.
Im not sure if it was just for Darcie
and myself but the wind was out to
test us as we rode into a strong
head wind. A fellow biker, passing
us offered the suggestion to ride the
other way as it would be easier. To
which a few kids replied “Hard work
is our friend!”. That was a proud
moment 1,234,298 for the trip
After another yummy lunch, off we rode for the remaining twelve kilometres to arrived back safe
and sound, at Buffalo before 1pm.
I speak for all of the adults when I say the next part - We are so proud of each and every student
who tackled this ride! They demonstrated every single school value and attribute that is important
to be successful during the whole camp! I’m not sure what tomorrow brings for this group but I
know they will tackle it with confidence, resilience, persistence and motivation to continue their
success.
Bring on
2020!

On Wednesday, ready to begin the 2019 Energy
Breakthrough competition on Thursday our HPV team,
and their families made their way up to
Maryborough.
Unfortunately, the weather was not on
the event’s side and Thursday was a hot
and windy day.
I’m so pleased that the team pushed through,
demonstrated amazing cooperation, resilience, persistence and confidence and finished the day
with some wonderful results.
Today, Friday the team will compete in the obstacle course, time trial and night practice before the
BIG endurance event tomorrow.
