Execution of 16 Pipeline Evacuation Units for Russia

In 2019, LMF was faced with the task of producing the proven equi-pment of the mobile pipeline eva-cuation units in one road. The pro-duction comprises 16 units of our largest type, the so-called P-Pack 750, in our product portfolio. The schedule of the delivery is conduc-ted for every month 2 pieces from September 2019 till April 2020.

The area of application for these units is the entire Russian terri-tory. This poses a special cha-llenge to the construction, rough roads, temperature differences of -45 °C to + 40 °C and chan-ged regulation of the EAC states had to be taken into account. With the engineering of our expe-rienced technicians we could get the wishes of customer to reality.

4 Hydrogen Compressors for Siberia

Largest CNG Station in the Region Ile-de-France

Supported by our colleagues from LMF Office in Moscow, LMF won a project about 4 Hydrogen compressors for a Refinery in Siberia.

To find a manufacturer which is familiar with the different Russian rules, regulations and codes was a major aim of client.According the engineering process in Russia LMF met with experts from either client (opera-tor) as well with some specialists from different disciplines of an engineering institute. The high le-vel of professionalism on both sides led the project through an efficient and clear engineering process.

The project was divided into 2 different packages of 2 identical compressor systems each. First package of 2 pieces B254- 147/133 S.S 2.4/4.9 for compression is designed and manufactured for operation with Hydrogen for Catalytic Reforming.

The second package of 2 pieces B182- 122 N 3.9 for operation with Hydrogen including small rate of H2S is designed and manufactured for operation Naphta Hydrotreatment. It compresses Hydrogen from 30 bar up to 170 bar, with non-lubricated pistons and packings.

In January 2020 the smaller types were started with operation- mode by Nitrogen as process gas and beginning of February the bigger compressor system were set into operation with Nitrogen, too. Operation with both process gas, Nitrogen for pre- operation of complete system and Hydrogen for production was a special requirement of client.

Following the successful Installation & Start-up of a European CNG bus refuelling facility mid of 2019, this impor-tant logistic facility is already close to 2 million kg of natural gas filled to heavy duty vehicles (HDV) by the end of February 2020. Location of this bus refuelling station is the Region Ile-de-France near the metropolis of Paris.

Visualization of all essential process parameters was designed as per customers’ requirements by means of a central SCADA visualisa-tion system. This technology is significantly supporting the daily opera-tion and maintenance process on a 24/7 basis in order to continuously analyse all critical process parameters for possible future disturbances quickly and efficiently via our experts to initiate preventive measures long before a possible damage might occur. In addition to this importantTele maintenance access also error messages can be submitted upon request via SMS, Email or voice message to operators or maintenance partners.

This important infrastructure expansion and the change from die-sel buses to environmentally friendly natural gas buses is only a small part of the 2025 climate plan that the ambitious French go-vernment has introduced to significantly reduce pollution and avoid CO2 and fine dust emissions with a lot of other infrastructure steps.

This site which is actually the largest CNG Infrastructure in France, is supporting the local bus operator to cover several transport routes for the capital and also a part of its suburbs. In the current expansion phase up to 140 HDV like bu-ses are refuelled per day, depending on demand.

The station can be used for a production of 6000 Nm³/h natu-ral gas in the future and is therefore well prepared for addi-tional expansion steps in combination with necessary exten-sion of the refuelling infrastructure as per local requirements.

The challenges of this TURN KEY project consisted in par-ticular in the additional customer requirement to install the main components of the station on a steel structure at a hei-ght of approx. 4 m with the necessity to rearrange the compo-nents instead of typical standardized installation at ground level. The complete Installation and Startup procedure for the new CNG station had to take place in parallel to the exis-ting operation until dismantling of the old filling Infrastructureunder extremely difficult and tough installation & startup conditions. Special thanks at this point to our field Service technicians and Experts which had to deal with this circumstances at site for several month.

In the current expansion stage the station is equipped with: 3 fully Containerized Natural gas compressors type BS302-211 S 25.1 (2 working + 1 standby com-pressor unit). Together with a fully automatic self-regenerating dryer system, storage unit, 3 CNG Dis-pensers for fast filling technology as well as auxiliary equipment also the control technology for the complete LMF compression part and a central SCADA visualization had to be handled by LMF.

More than 120 additional dispensing points for continuous “slow filling” refuelling purpose with own de-tached control technology have been installed under the umbrella of other contractors at this location.

“Participating at the first Mobile Gas Compression Conference was very inspiring for me. I appreciate the opportunity to visit the LMF facility and participate in understanding more about the advanced technology presented by LMF. Our goal is to collaborate with operators and provide advanced service technology to help them minimize any environmental im-pact of energy supply process. The development of natural gas re-compression service has helped pipeline operators significantly reduce methane emissions. By organizing this Mobile Gas Compression. Conference, LMF created a uni-que opportunity to share experiences, discuss challenges and new ideas relating to the execution of gas re-compres-sion services. This will help the industry move forward with developing new technology to help protect the environment.”

Meeting between Colleagues

Project with a view

In April 2019, Open Grid Europe GmbH complied with the request of LMF and Gazprom MKS Ltd. and gave an interes-ting presentation at their facility in Essen, Germany with its know-how as operator in the field of mobile pipeline evacuation.

This gave the future operator the oppor-tunity to draw on the experience of an operator who had already been working in this field for many years. The topics of this meeting were: construction of the pipes to the unit and back, opera-tion of the unit and logistic experiences.

As we had very limited machining capabilities for ORC parts on our vertical lathe and milling cen-ters, we had to look for a machine tool in early 2019 that would allow us to machine bigger parts by oursel-ves. After several discussions with machine suppliers such as OKUMA, MAZAK, FMT, DMG MORI, DOO-SAN and after weeks of comparing the machines offered to us, we finally chose a DMG MORI DMU 210FDS. The DMG MORI DMU 210FDS is a 5-axis milling, turning and grinding centre with the following characteristics:

DMG MORI DMU 210FDS- Spindle speed 12,000 rpm - Drive power 44kW - Spindle torque 288 Nm - Connected load from 150-164 kVA - Tool places 123 - Drive speed turntable 250 min-1 - Drive power 68 kW - Torque 8,600 Nm - Maximum workpiece weight 5 tons - Machine weight including tool magazine ~49 tons

This High - Tech - machine and its operation falls under the top class of the processing machines and is therefore only opera-ted and programmed by longtime, experienced and specially tra-ined employees. In order to be able to fully utilize or program a 5-axis machine, a special 3D-CAM programming system is requi-red, which was also purchased when the machine was purchased.

In Order to ensure the process reliability for the production of various milled parts (e.g. connecting rods) LMF further more invested in a vertical 3-axis machining centre DMG MORI DMC 1150 with the following characteristics:

For both machines, crane, foundations, tools and clamping devices as well as a 3D-CAM programming system a total budget of 2 MIO € was released and invested.

DMG MORI DMC 1150- Spindle speed 18,000 rpm - Drive power 35kW - Spindle torque 130 Nm - Tool places 40 - Maximum workpiece weight 1.5 tons - Machine weight incl. tool magazine ~11.5 tons

Investmentin two new machining centres

In spring of 2019 LMF was selected by the Spa-nish Oil & Gas Company CEPSA to supply a Hy-drogen compressor to their Gibraltar Refinery in San Roque for their Paraffin Hydrotreating Unit.A key factor for CEPSA was to award a manufacturer who can meet their challenging project schedule while com-plying with all their refinery standards, and implement the fully packaged compressor in an existing plant. Fur-ther, the compressor must be able to operate at a wide range in pressures due to oscillations of the system.

The supplied LMF process gas compressor B92-209 N16.8 meets all the customer’s requirement and is in full com-pliance with API 618. It compresses Hydrogen from 30 bar up to 170 bar, with non-lubricated pistons and packings. The project was a success in as much as all the customer’s requirement were met and the delivery schedule kept. Howe-ver, the project had also another characteristic, which made it even more attractive compared to others: the location!

Refineries are normally in the midd-le of nowhere, not your usual vacation spot. While this is actually irrelevant for our business it is nice for a change after a long day of meetings not to retreat to an unpleasant place but to have dinner at a beautiful beach. So we all hope for follow-up orders so we can see that view again.
