The end of an era
As of 30 September 2019, MYOB will no longer be providing features, patches, compliance updates or product support for AccountRight Classic (v19) solutions.
This includes updates for any future Windows operating systems.
Tech company stops supporting much loved software - sounds a bit dramatic doesn’t it? In reality though, its something that happens pretty regularly in the name of progress – If it didn’t, we’d all still be getting harassed by ‘Clippy’ the paperclip guy every time we opened a document in Word.
We’re convinced by the benefits of moving to an online accounting solution. This guide is designed to help you understand the benefits of making that move.
What is v19?
v19 is the term commonly used to cover a selection of our legacy desktop software including:
+ Business Basics v1.1 (AU) / v1.5 (NZ) and earlier
+ AccountRight Standard v19.15 (including MYOB Accounting v19.8 and earlier)
+ AccountRight Plus v19.15 (including MYOB Accounting Plus v18 and earlier)
+ AccountRight Premier v19.15 (including MYOB Premier v12.5 and earlier)
+ AccountRight Enterprise v19.15 (including MYOB Premier Enterprise v6.5 and earlier).

END OF SUPPORT, END OF LIFE – ALL MEANS THE SAME THING DOESN’T IT?

Well, not really. When a product reaches its end of life a change is made that will render the product unusable. That’s not the case when we talk end of support.
In June 2019 we will be releasing a compliance (Payroll tax table) release for v19.
That will be the last compliance or feature release for our AccountRight Classic products.
The product will still be able to be accessed and used, even after we end support in September. The only difference is that if something goes wrong, or an Operating System upgrade impacts your product, or you require new tax tables in 2020, there won’t be any support or patches available from MYOB to fix the problem.
Why now?
There are several reasons for stopping support for legacy products, even those as well loved as v19.
The short answer is that it allows us to focus our efforts and resources in the areas that will offer the most value to the most people. To determine that we looked at three key areas:
Demand
94% of SMEs who bought software from MYOB in 2017 chose an online solution to help run their business.
This figure is indicative of a trend that is only heading in one direction.
Our values
We’ve made a commitment to delivering the solutions that provide users with the most value.
As the needs of our clients and the industry changes, so does the way we develop software.
Investment required
Supporting and developing solutions on multiple platforms and technologies is extremely expensive.
By reinvesting this money into a single platform we can increase the speed and value of enhancements.

Single Touch Payroll (STP) is a new, simpler way for your clients to report their employees’ payroll information to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
Single Touch Payroll will be the law by 1 July 2019, so it’s necessary for everyone with employees.
But don’t worry, we’re here to make it as easy as possible, using the payroll feature which already exists in MYOB’s accounting software.
STP for v19?
While v19 solutions will continue to work even after the 30 September end of support date, STP introduces some urgency for people with employees to move to an online solution.
v19 will not be STP compliant. We encourage all users with employees to move to an STP compliant solution before the STP deadline to ensure they remain STP Compliant.

While STP is a compelling reason for many to move to an online solution, its far from the only reason. AccountRight has experienced several new releases over recent years that have introduced a new world of great features.
Other than STP there’s Pay Super, better cashflow management through invoice payments and improved In Tray capabilities including direct invoicing from suppliers.
