Nehemiah UCHA Academy: Investing In Your Future

The decision to establish the Nehemiah UCHA Academy and Charitable Aid Foundation (CAF) demonstrates Nehemiah UCHA’s desire to give back to local people as part of its corporate social responsibility. It goes back to the original concept at the heart of both Nehemiah Housing Association and UCHA to not only provide homes but also to positively impact on the communities within which we work.

We want to raise levels of achievement and motivation to help people access the career and education opportunities they might not have believed were available to them.

Kwadwo Owusu-Darko, Chairman Nehemiah UCHA

The current economic climate has impacted negatively on the UK’s employment rates, contributing to a dramatic increase in unemployment nationwide. As a result, the young are especially vulnerable due to their lack of work experience and specifi c skills required by employers. Our work placement schemes offer an attractive opportunity for these individuals to gain insight into the world of work as well as make a positive contribution.

Furthermore, for those involved as supervisors for the duration of placements, it’s an opportunity to develop their management, mentoring and coaching abilities/skills.

Llewellyn Graham, Chief Executive Nehemiah UCHA

An Investment In Your CareerThe Nehemiah UCHA Academy is all about helping you develop your skills and improve your career prospects, and is part of our ongoing commitment to deliver better services to improve the lives of our customers.

Work placementsNehemiah UCHA will be working with a number of institutions, such as schools, colleges and community groups, to offer placements throughout the year, usually on a two-weekly basis.

Learning about every aspect of running a successful housing association, from fi nance and support services to housing administration, these placements are an excellent opportunity to gain real life experience in a wide variety of areas. Work placements look great on your CV and could make all the difference when it comes to getting that all-important job.

Graduate internshipsWorking in partnership with local education establishments, we are pleased to offer a number of one-to-two year graduate internships. During the recruitment process for interns, Nehemiah UCHA will offer all shortlisted candidates a CV review and provide feedback, together with an empowerment input to assist individuals in achieving their goals.

Nehemiah UCHA:More Than Just A Housing Association

Simone is just one of many customers who’ve experienced and benefi ted from our work placement schemes, educational opportunities and fi nancial aid packages for tenants and local people across the West Midlands, offered as part of our Nehemiah UCHA Academy and Charitable Aid Foundation (CAF).

Nehemiah UCHA Academy:Success Stories

“It all started last September when I enrolled on a short housing course in Housing Practice and Management at the Birmingham Metropolitan College. During the course, the ‘Under One Roof’ newsletter arrived and I saw the article on the Academy. I immediately thought this sounded interesting and spoke to Janet Dubidat at Nehemiah UCHA’s head offi ce who said she would love to help me and have me on board.

So then my work placement with Nehemiah UCHA began.”

“Thank you for your support in helping me achieve my goal. The recent grant I received to purchase a laptop has benefi ted me greatly as I am now able to work more effi ciently in completing my diploma.

The grant has also removed the worry of fi nancial constraints and I can focus on the course without distraction.”
