POSTLUDE “Here I Am Lord” Traditional MATTHEW 14:22-33 (NRSV)

“Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, ‘It is a ghost!’ And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, ‘Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.’ Peter answered him, ‘Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.’ He said, ‘Come.’ So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, ‘You of little faith, why did you doubt?’ When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, ‘Truly you are the Son of God.’”

CHIMES PRELUDE “Give Thanks” arr. Weber BRINGING IN THE LIGHT WELCOME, REGISTRATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP L: We gather to worship our God, P: who speaks the words of peace we need in chaotic times. L: We gather to follow Jesus, P: who encourages to never fear, for he is near. L: We gather to be filled with the Spirit, P: who anoints us so we can go to serve our world.

HYMN “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” No. 575

(Verses 1, 2 & 3) PRAYER OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY (In Unison)

Gracious God, we gather once again to offer you praise and thanksgiving for your unfailing love and faithfulness, shown most clearly in and through Jesus Christ. Grant us grace to worship you in spirit and in truth. Through the power of your Holy Spirit, open our eyes to recognize you here among us. Give us courage to step out in faith to meet you and confidence to follow where you lead. For you are our God, and we are your people, called by your name.

L: Let us now pray together the prayer that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ taught us:

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
