A lab in Ghent where children, teachers & adults ages 5 to 99 can experiment with a variety of STEAM-tools.We organise hands-on workshops:- INSIDE OF SCHOOL HOURS FOR CLASS GROUPS (AGES 5 -18)- FOR TEACHERS- OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL HOURS FOR EVERYONE

PROJECT-BASED LEARNING? => promoting links among subject => transversal themes => adaptable to different types of learners, learning situations & societal issues => ACTIVE HANDS-ON LEARNING: design, problemsolving & decision making

PLAYFUL AND CREATIVE LEARNING? => Creativity & innovation have strong links with knowlegde & learning => Creativity an essential skill because it leads to knowledge creation & the construction of personal meaning (Ferrari, Cachia & Puni) => Combining learning and fun results in creative thinking techniques

THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY? => ICT, making tools & multimedia can enhace learning experiences but are not necessary => technology is meant to facilitate learning => will only work when it suits the age & proficiency level of the pupils

THE ROLE OF THE TEACHER? => implementation of 21st century skills can only work when teachers are willing to rethink their beliefs about learning and teaching => teachers should be supported with educational tools to be able to implement

WHEN DO WE START? => STEAM related carreer? Children decide before the age of 14, based on early experiences!! (Tytler)

=> to reach every child! => workshops are linked to the different curricula with lesson plans=> to inspire both children & teachers

WHY OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL HOURS?
=> to develop & test new workshops so we can implement them within school hours => to get inspired by the children=> children were too enthousiastic & there was no offer
