We want to thank Missy Malmberg for opening her beautiful home to us. Our local experts at Kroger, Lance and Associates, did an excellent job pairing wines with yummy cheeses, nuts and even chocolate! As always the Programs Committee provided a lovely lunch afterwards. The 2014 Valentine’s Gala was a tremendous success! Over $23,000 was raised for The Center for Children and Young Adults! Thank you to everyone who attended , donated and helped out. We couldn’t have made it so successful without ALL of you. There are several special thank yous I would like to make and the first is to Amy McConnell for being our auction rockstar this year! The wonderful auction displays were the work of Liz Hall. Jane Harm designed our beautiful invitations and Tina Engberg was our liason with the CCYA for having the kids make our favors for the gala. Lynn Thompson handled the RSVPs with the ease of a professional. Suzanne Deery, Elizabeth Cooper and Regina Wood created our amazing tablescapes for the evening. Cindy Formica, Chris Cashman, and Carolyn Cadiou managed the incoming funds like champions! Other special thank yous go to the following: Trish Chapman Kristen Bernheim Sarajane Fletcher Heather Rees Cathy Snyder Caryn Sonderman Nancy Mitchell Cynthia Dolezal

Patti Newi Brooke Davis Amber Carey Janet Thomas Carie Buchanan Kim Sherk Patricia Rossman Janie Kissling Jana Pantesco Julia Wenzell All proceeds from the Valentine’s Gala benefit The Center for Children and Young Adults (CCYA). The center, on Austell Road in Marietta, provides a home to 39 girls and boys from the ages of 12-21 years. These children come from a world filled with abuse, neglect, abandonment and exploitation. The center

provides food, shelter, clothing, educational services and transitional services to these youth. It truly is a nurturing place for them to live, heal and thrive. Don’t forget to order your beautiful pictures through the website of Genie Fleischel! Danna Vach 2014 CPWC Valentine’s Gala Chairperson

Pinterest-ing…..

By Heather Rees Two tried and true Pinterest recipes. We had these at the Pinter-est event and they were a hit. 1. Deep Dish Quickie Cookie Ingredients:

one well seasoned 10-12 inch iron skillet (no extra greasing necessary)

one 16.5 oz roll of chocolate chip cookie dough from refrigerator section of grocery

Preheat oven to 375. Slice dough and put slices down on bottom of skillet to cover skillet. With a piece of wax paper or saran wrap lay on top and smush around to make cookie pieces even with no holes so make a fairly even layer on bottom of skillet then remove wax paper or saran wrap (used only to not get your hands all sticky). Bake for 15-20 minutes until top of cookie is desired brown. Cool for a few minutes then scoop out with a big spoon into bowls and serve with vanilla ice cream and maybe even a drizzle of hot fudge or sprinkles! So easy and everyone will love it.

2. Balsamic Strawberry Rounds

one baguette bread cut into slices

one carton strawberries

1-2 logs goat cheese (room temp)

jar balsamic reduction (can get at Fresh Market or most grocery stores)

fresh thyme Cut strawberries into small pieces (can do ahead). Pull thyme leaves off and stir into strawberries to taste. Lightly spritz or brush bread slices with olive oil and gently toast spread softened goat cheese on each bread slice pour about 1/4 to 1/2 cup bal-samic reduction into strawberries and thyme and stir. Spoon strawberry mixture onto each bread slice and serve. YUMMO!

This event was a fun way to become introduced to Pinterest and to discover new avenues to explore! Some of the items shared were wreaths, chalkboard painted wineglass stems, bookmarks from paper clips, message boards made from dollar store platters and frames, faux topiaries, personalized serving pieces, and so much more! It certainly got the crea-tive juices flowing! Come join us on the journey next time!

programs

On Friday morning, February 21st, Missy Malmberg was kind enough to have us to her home for the month’s program. Lance Dunn and his team from Kroger and Murray Cheese sponsored our wine and cheese tasting and luncheon. It was a terrific time and we learned a great deal. For example, a ched-dar is a good choice with a cab-

ernet. And the NxNW wine is, in fact, connected with the Kar-dashians. On March 21st we will “Cherish Delicious Food” at the home of Shea Amin. Natalie Keng, the Chinese Southern Belle will present a cooking program! Please come be a part!

Ladies Night Out! We will meet at a TBD next Mon-day night, March 10th! Rsvp to Cynthia Dolezal at [email protected]. Come join us!

After last month’s crazy weather, we've all learned how important it is to stay in close communica-tion. CPWC is offering another way of reaching our membership. Remind 101 is a one-way text messag-ing system. To sign up to receive updates and meet-ing information from CPWC via text… On your cell phone -- do the following...

Evening group

By Janie Kissling February evening group meeting was attended by 20 women, from the newest and youngest member to three of the long time original members of the club. The ladies

enjoyed delicious food and drink lots of good conversa-tion at the home of Janie Kissling. Both Presidents were also in attendance. Martha Ouderkirk, neighbor and former CPWC Pres., shared passages from her recently published books. Her first book was a memoir and a tribute to her husband John who passed away two years ago. It was a beautiful poetic honor to John. Her other books were from her Alexandra series designed to help us live life well and in a positive manner. Another of her books was actually a tribute to John Ouderkirk written by their granddaughter. Martha encouraged the ladies to help their children and grandchildren write their thoughts, ideas, and feelings. Martha shared her experiences in trying to find a good publishing company for her books. She gave information on the publisher and how to contact that particular firm. She encouraged the ladies to use their voice and also to create a legacy for their families. It was a good time of inspiration.

Green Thumb? Janet Francesconi and our garden club are antic-ipating a trip to the Smith-Gilbert gardens in May or early June. Please keep an eye for that and other upcoming garden club activities!
