BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The time has gone by quickly this summer and fall. The holidays are right around the corner. Our annual election dinner is held this month. As always we are so excited to acknowledge our Citizen of the Year, Dave Cole and Business of the Year, Laing Funeral Home. We are

also acknowledging our town UPS carrier, Carl. Carl is known to many of us as our friend Carl, the UPS driver. If you were not fortunate enough to have him deliver to you, you missed his exceptional service. Carl will be retiring at the end of the year and the Chamber did not want to miss the opportunity to thank him for his services.

We had a busy year at the Chamber. We welcomed several new businesses/owners with ribbon cuttings. We painted our Welcome to Eden signs and completed many projects in the Chamber Park and the Chamber Barn. Our Corn Festival fundraiser, the Eden Chamber of Commerce Chicken Barbecue, was profitable. Our Eden Holiday Magic Celebration was also a success and we are very excited to continue this fundraiser to keep our streets lit with holiday magic. The 5th Annual Halloween Parade was exciting, and the 140 children who participated all had a great time. The costumes were just great; a lot of imagination was expressed by our children. The children ranged from 12 days to 12 years old. We saw many smiles and that’s why we continue. The parade participants donated 53 pounds of food to the Eden North-Collins Food Pantry.

Remember this Chamber has partnered with Bene-Care and as 2018 winds down and you have questions about health insurance, HR matters and other back office needs, please do not hesitate to call Bene-Care or the Eden Chamber.

Our final project this year, will be our Christmas Sharing program, reaching out to our Eden families in need, with the guidance of the Eden Central School District.

Wishing our businesses and organizations in the Town of Eden great success, and if this Chamber can be of help, please call.

Sincerely yours, Pattie Hartman Chamber President

The Spring and Summer seasons started out with a reopening and then a grand opening in May of the Eden Dairy Queen. Over the summer the famous ice cream and fan food store got a complete makeover. The Gawron family

of Eden put their heart and soul into making Eden’s “sweet shop” a real sweet place to stop for a treat, a sandwich or a cool drink. It was noticeable how many people enjoyed the umbrella-topped tables while they chatted and took in the warmer weather. It’s been entertaining watching the changes and goings on at the Eden Dairy Queen. The Gawron family have been generous donors and strong supporters of the Eden Chamber of Commerce. So, we wish the Gawron family a much need rest over the winter. Your patrons will be back looking forward to another great season of DQ treats!

If you want to talk about another family who has made a difference in our community, let’s talk about the O’Brien family. On our Main Street sits a quaint restaurant that has been a gathering place for many years for our residents and residents of surrounding communities under a couple of different names. Pat and Yvette O’Brien have owned that restaurant for those many years and have just this year taken it back into their own management. The O’Briens are well known for their community involvement and this reopening of the “Eden Pub” has been just another example

of their willingness to put their time and energy back into the town they live in. So to honor the reopening of the Pub, the Eden Chamber of Commerce was there for the grand opening this past summer. A newer addition to the eatery is a food truck that you may see around providing quick meals at hot spots around town and the surrounding areas. If you haven’t been to the Pub, you have to stop in and say Hi to Yvette and Pat. Give them your good vibes and thank them for their interest in keeping Eden on the map!

Now comes along the second generation of O’Briens…Allie O’Brien Phillipi and Zak O’Brien who are the co-owners of Eden Car Wash. They have done some changes within the car wash and have showcased themselves at yet another grand opening that the Eden

Chamber and our Town Supervisor participated in. With the upcoming weeks ahead full of snow and salt, this car wash will be in high demand. Not every small town has

their own car wash. So, thanks Allie and Zak for keeping Eden’s Car Wash up and running!

Grand Openings in Eden!

Farm Family Insurance Eden Valley Inc.

716-575-6044It is well known that our community’s major industry is farming. As with any business or residence, insurance is a normal component of operating responsively. In Eden lies a business that answers to the insurance needs of many individuals, families, businesses and especially, farms and all agricultural related matters that requires insurance

such as crop insurance. The agency is a multi-line insurance company that carries not only farm insurance but, contractors’ i n s u r a n c e , homeowners, auto and life. Farm Family Insurance currently holds a p p r o x i m a t e l y 40% of farm insurance in New York State.

The Farm Family Insurance office that sits on the main floor at 8226

North Main Street, Eden is run by Harry Rasey, a veteran of insurance for 25 years and a licensed agent and broker. Harry lives in the Gowanda area and had been running a successful business for 20 years in Elma. About five years ago, he decided to locate his office closer to his home, and Eden seemed like a logical choice. Since then he has discovered how loyal Eden is to himself and his business. He said that Eden residents have expressed a need to do business in Eden and this he appreciates.

The patrons of Farm Family Insurance are well cared for by Harry’s efficient staff of Christine Micucci, CSR and Angela Smith, CSR. Their combined insurance experience is approximately 35 years.

When asked a little about himself, Harry answered that he grew up in a family of six children and his dad had been a veterinarian. He had attended a family function and a relative of his was a Farm Family Insurance agent.

He quizzed his relative about working for Farm Family, then took the required tests and became a member of the insurance company. Harry hasn’t looked back since. He now spends some free time hunting and fishing, but mostly following his son to his son’s hockey games and tournaments. Harry is married and has a daughter, as well, who is graduating from Law School this coming May.

Thanks to Harry and his staff for adding another layer of service to our community that is needed and appreciated. Thanks to Harry for his generous support of the Chamber. We are glad you chose Eden as a place to set up shop!

One of the reasons the Eden Chamber of Commerce is in existence is because of the dedication of its members and the volunteers from the community who make the Chicken BBQ at the Eden Corn Festival a success. It takes over 100 volunteers to cover all the jobs required to give fast, friendly service to our patrons. Each year the list of willing volunteers has grown. There are no words to express the appreciation the Chamber Board feels for these people. Often times the weather doesn’t cooperate and the line of hungry guests gets very long, but the people who come out to work for this event make it fun, and their smiling faces make it all worthwhile.

Along with our volunteers comes the staff of Weidners BBQ. Their expertise and skill makes our chicken BBQ run seamlessly. To Charlie, Ryan and their amazing staff, we say thank you for being the foundation of our continued success.

Not to forget Jeff Winters and his Corn Festival Staff, we say thank you and support your efforts to make Eden a stopping place for visitors.

Wishing all our beloved members and friends continued success, and be sure you will be hearing from us next summer asking for your time and support! Thank you all!

Eden Chamber Chicken BBQ Was a Hit…Again!

Scholarship WinnersThis year’s Eden Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur Scholarship winners were Emma Scheidel and Caroline Winiecki. Each High School Senior received a $500 scholarship to help jump start their studies.

Caroline is attending Nazareth College majoring in Occupational Therapy. Emma is attending Slippery Rock University for Integrated Marketing/Communications. They were chosen from five very qualified applicants. Each of the recipients had to pass five criteria points and complete an essay giving a description of the field they will be studying, their past participation in school and community, and the reason they feel they deserve this award. Both of these young ladies did an excellent job completing the scholarship award criteria.

The Eden Chamber Scholarship Committee and the Board of Directors wish these students a very successful school year and years to come. We hope you will come back from college with a stronger commitment to Eden and its future.

Bright Beginnings Childcare and PreschoolOne of Eden’s premier businesses tends to the “smallest” of our citizens. Bright Beginnings Childcare &Preschool located at 7633 Gowanda State Road has been operating in our community since 2008. Theowners, Julia & Scott Dzubella, have been life-long Eden residents. From this Eden loyalty comes abusiness that offers a safe, nurturing environment where your child will get the attention and care that heor she needs. Their ratio of children to adults is always within state guidelines – and often even lower – to

make certain each child receives top-quality care. Programs include Infants (Ages 6 weeks - 11⁄2 years; Toddlers (Ages 11⁄2 years – 3); Preschool (Ages 4 - 5 ). A child’s day is highlighted with structure through circle time, music, reading, exercise programs andplan old fun! The Chamber is proud to have The Dzubellas on their team as a member of the Eden Chamber of Commerce!

Looks like Eden is Going to the DogsBy Mike Bolo

Until a few years ago, Eden’s well regarded veterinary of decades longstanding washoused in a modest, old, nondescript building. Then the new ownership invested in avery attractive, nearly sumptuous, new building on the same site. They cater to dogs butinclude other pets as well. Again a few years back Pat O’Brien enlarged his auto washfacility to include a stall for dog washing. If that wasn’t enough, longtime Eden residentand supporter, Robin Evenhouse, bought a Main Street building and, with a partner, setup a dog grooming operation. With all of that tangible and conspicuous evidence, mightone conclude that Eden is going to the dogs?

Celebrate Eden- Something New for the Corn FestBy Mike Bolo

Your Chamber, Eden High School, and the CornFest Committee are collaborating toprovide yet another opportunity for visitors to the CornFest to learn or be reminded of 40plus reasons why Eden is such a wonderful place in which to live, raise a family and/or tooperate a business. Running continuously, we will have a 70 – 90 minute visual only(mixture of photos, charts, mission statement, brief text, DVD, etc.) playing on two largeback-to-back screens under the Chicken BBQ tent. There will also be a smaller screenplaying this somewhere near the lines where visitors pay and then wait for their orders. With adult supervision, our school kids will be putting this project together by gatheringinformation and visuals and will pull this together in a format that we can use withminimal effort.

Themes categorizing the 40 plus groups/entities to be covered include: BusinessFriendly; “Rooted” in Agriculture; Really Caring About Kids; Serving Our Seniors;Honoring Those Who Have Served (Vets); Worshipping in Eden; AdditionalDistinctions.

Be sure to visit our BBQ tent to Celebrate Eden in a “visual” way.

Dear Members:

Finally, spring is upon us! The farmers are planting and the Chamber is looking forward to aproductive rest of the year.

The past several weeks, the hot topic has been funding of the new Eden Central School sign.Well, thanks to some generous donations such as the Eden Community Foundation, SharonBaur, Howard Stresing and family, and many others who gave donations in honor of ourschool and its students past and present. Our goals were quickly met as this project tookapproximately 2 ½ months. This speaks to the whole community and the Town of Eden. Onceagain, our community comes through!

In our efforts to bring awareness to our membership and get involved more with the future ofour students, we are hosting a Membership Pizza Party on Tuesday, May 6th at the FourCorners Café. At 6:30 p.m – 8 p.m. Our guests are the business students from Eden Central. We hope that working together and explaining how the Chamber works with our potentialfuture business owners will be a positive, productive move for our community’s future. Wewill be discussing the Chamber’s goals and take suggestions from our audience as to whatthey would like to see the Chamber doing.

I especially want to welcome our new members! They are listed in this newsletter. I hopethat all who read this will support these businesses to show their belief in the future of Edenand support the Chamber’s efforts to represent all our businesses to the total community.

As many of you know, we have moved into the Smith Building and are in the process ofpurchasing a new and exciting sign for the front of the building to notify everyone that theChamber is vibrant and committed to the future of Eden.

We are also developing a website which can be used by any of our business members toadvertise their special events and to provide an electronic directory for members to list theirservices in a state-of-the art fashion. Our office will manage the website for our members.

Before you know it, our famous Chicken BBQ during the Corn Festival will be upon us! Asalways, we are looking for our fellow members for support of any kind during this busy time. Please give some thought to reaching out to us as a volunteer. The more the merrier!

Thanks, Paul Zittel, President

Here at the Chamber office, the Board and I are enjoying revitalization of theChamber’s purpose. Our Board is proactive and supportive of each other. There are a lot ofgreat ideas that come from a group of people that have a similar vision. To name a few, weare close to finalizing a website for the Chamber and its members. It will be available for thepurpose of being an electronic resource for folks looking for services in Eden and a news hubfor the town and businesses. Our outside office sign should be appearing this late spring. Ouroffice wall sign looks pretty sharp too! The wheels are beginning to turn in preparation for thechicken BBQ at the Corn Festival. We will be looking for help, so give it some thought. Ipromise you won’t regret spending a little time with us! All you business members should bereceiving a surprise soon either in the mail or delivered by one of the Board members. Hopeyou will be very proud of it! It’s our way of saying ‘you really matter.’ I’m looking forwardto a beautiful rest of the year and want to thank all of you for supporting the Chamber andmyself. It’s great to live in Eden!
