Our Production Team, Ross, Nicky, Scott and
Gordon with cask number 1 on 1st August
2017. Our first cask to hold whisky in the
warehouse!
Info
Casks filled to date: 2955
Upcoming ..
Malt Stock (8th-10th September
2017) For the first time ever, Adelphi will be taking
part in Malt Stock –organised by whisky
lovers, for whisky lovers and hailed as the
most ‘relaxed’ whisky fair. The whisky event
which will be taking place for the 9th year
running will be in Overasselt, a village in the
Dutch province of Gelderland. Lucy will be
there representing Adelphi, holding a
masterclass on the Saturday afternoon.
A little shout out..
Now that we have entered our third year of
production and our warehouse has been
filling up nicely, the next logical step was to
have space for the growing cask numbers. Our
new Ardnamurchan Distillery warehousing is
well under way, meaning that we will have
plenty more room for casks to come.
Next month we will be releasing the next
mature spirit release, the Ardnamurchan
2017AD. Slightly more peaty than its
predecessor, the 2017AD has flavours of
‘Honey roasted nuts, Christmas-spiced
sultanas, baked apples, and custard creams on
the nose. Liquorice Allsorts, nutmeg, rock salt
and smouldering driftwood on the palate’. A
nice follow on showing work in progress
towards our first ever single malt.
Dancey Dispatches AUGUST 2017
THE FIRST ARDNAMURCHAN DISTILLERY CASKS OFFICIALLY HOLD WHISKY
Very excited to announce that we officially have whisky as our first
Ardnamurchan casks turned 3 years old as of the 1st August. With strict
regulations stipulating that spirit has to mature in oak casks for a minimum of
three years in Scotland before it can be called Scotch whisky, this marks a
landmark moment in our history as we start building our stock for the first ever
Ardnamurchan single malt which we are looking to release in 2021. Thanks to all
of our followers from all around the world who have also been helping us
celebrate! Alex Bruce, MD of Adelphi and The Ardnamurchan Distillery said: ‘This
is a hugely important milestone for Ardnamurchan. We have been overwhelmed
by the support for the distillery from all over the world, and this is a testament to
the great team we have working with us, and their absolute attention to quality.
The 500 litre ex-Sherry butt no. 1, filled on the 1st August 2014, is now
surrounded by a full warehouse of sister casks, all enjoying the superb west coast
maturation climate.”

A landmark moment in the Ardnamurchan Distillery has been
reached this month as we can proudly say that the first casks laid
down in our warehouse now hold whisky for the first time.
VISIT FROM HIGHLAND BAND,
SKIPINNISH
On the 16th of August, renowned Highland band, Skipinnish paid us a visit at the Ardnamurchan Distillery. The band were taken on a tour round the distillery by Sophie and our Chairman, Keith Falconer which included a chance to see their cask in situ, as proud members of our Ardnamurchan Private Cask programme. At the end of the tour, the group came to enjoy a few drams at the VC bar which was then followed by the band playing a few tunes. A fantastic visit and look forward to welcoming you back to the distillery again soon.
ADELPHI AT THE WHISKY FRINGE
This year’s Edinburgh Whisky Fringe was a hit once again
this year with visitors from all around the world, whisky
novices and the more experienced whisky drinkers alike
attending this infamous Edinburgh whisky fair. Over the
course of the three days, attendees got to sample whiskies
from an array of different companies, with a total of 25
different distillers and more than 250 drams available to
taste. Gordon, Lewis, Sophie, Lucy and Antonia all took part
in the Whisky Fringe and once again the Adelphi stand
proved to be very popular. Our latest Bunnahabhain 11yo,
beautifully sherried from a refill sherry hogshead was the
first to go (with all bottles allocated for the tastings finished
before the end of day 2) and was voted one of the Spirit of
The Whisky Fringe Top 10. Other favourites at our stand
included the 26yo Bowmore, Glen Garioch 18yo, Glen Grant
29yo. The Half Time Orange was in high demand as well, a
rare archive bottling of Breath of the Highlands (1973)
which was one of only 51 bottles.

which includes a 2 night stay and fine dining in its

Kilcamb on this and we look forward to hosting our
whisky tastings in such a lovely setting.
ALEX’S OVERSEAS ADVENTURE PART II: FROM OZ TO NEW ZEALAND.
From Australia, Alex’s overseas adventure continued with a trip to New Zealand. Here, Alex’s first destination was Auckland
where he kicked off the first of the Adelphi whisky tastings, organised by Whisky Galore. The tasting was made extra special by
the fact that this was on the day that the Ardnamurchan Casks turned 3 years old. For round 2 of the Adelphi NZ tour, Alex made
his way to Wellington where a tasting was held at the QT Museum, a hotel boasting 160 original artworks by local and national
artists. Featured Adelphi drams included: Benrinnes 10yo, The Glover 18 batch 4, Cragganmore 30yo, Breath of Speyside 10yo,
Bunnahabhain 11yo and Laphroaig 20yo. Alex’s 3rd and final part of the tasting tour took place to a full house (around 40 people)
in Marlborough at the Spy Valley Winery (one of the world’s 20 most notable new producers) and its attendees included some
top wine makers. Alex’s New Zealand tour ended with Whisky Galore’s fantastic Inaugural Whisky Stramash – a night of Scottish
music, ceilidh dancing and of course, whisky. Invited as guest of honour, Alex introduced 3 whiskies over the course of the night,
including bottles of the Breath of Speyside which were donated by Adelphi towards the evening’s enjoyment.
ADELPHI HEADS TO FALKIRK FOR THE
SECOND YEAR RUNNING
Antonia and Lucy took part in the 2nd ever
Falkirk Whisky Festival which was held at
Dobie Hall on 19th August. The Adelphi stand
featured some of our most recent bottlings
as well as The Glover 18. Several return
customers from the previous year made a
bee-line for the stand, eager to try the new
range that was on offer this time around.
Someone was so impressed with the bottle
of the Breath of the Highlands they bought
the last available bottle. We also had a guest
appearance from great friend and whisky
accomplice, Andrew Goodwin, who came to
join the Adelphi stand for part of the first
session.
ALEX BRUCE JOINS THE EXTENDED BRUCE FAMILY, TAKING PART IN
THE EDINBURGH MILITARY TATTOO
As part of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo’s ‘Splash of Tartan’,
Scottish clans and families were invited to ‘march on the castle’ over
the course of the month long event. On the penultimate night (25th
August), MD of Adelphi, Alex Bruce and members of his family joined
Bruces and Duries from all over the world, accompanied by the Elgin
Regiment as they marched onto the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle.
Alex’s brother, Charles, led the march followed by the Chief’s Bruce
flags and the Elgin regiment carrying Robert the Bruce’s sword. On
the night, in an Edinburgh Tattoo first, the Guest of Honour receiving
the salute and a welcoming dram from the Chiefs was none other
than the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff (The most senior
military person in the world). Over the course of the Bruce and Durie
march, a bottle of specially labelled Adelphi Breath of Speyside was
also presented to the Tattoo CEO, Brigadier David Allfrey.

GETTING TO KNOW THE TEAM: ANTONIA BRUCE
WHAT’S YOUR POSITION WITHIN THE COMPANY?
‘European Sales’, covering France, Italy, Austria, Poland, UK (occasionally Finland)
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING AT ADELPHI?
I’ve been part of the Adelphi team for 8 years WHAT BROUGHT YOU INTO THE WHISKY INDUSTRY?
Thirst…haha, no, I had 8 years’ previous experience in the wine and champagne world.
My developing interest in whisky coincided happily with a need for an extra pair of hands at Adelphi.
DESCRIBE A DAY IN THE LIFE DEALING WITH ADELPHI’S EUROPEAN SALES?
I work part-time for Adelphi, 9-3.30, plus weekends if there are fairs. If it’s a desk-day, I will generally do morning admin: go
through my emails, deal with any orders, chase cheques, and then usually try to meet customers by 11 before they get busy. If
it’s an on-the-road day, I’ll leave as soon as my children have left for school, at 7.45 so that I can fit as much in as possible.
Even though I work from home, I try to get across to the Mother Ship in Fife once a week, if only to check that they haven’t
forgotten me.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR FAVOURITE ASPECT OF YOUR JOB?
Without a doubt, working with a wonderful group of people.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO UNWIND OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Depending on how long the day has been, either of the following: Meet friends for restorative chat, food and drinkies. Play
tennis (badly), ditto cricket (a recent hobby). Watch my children play cricket. Puff my way up Arthur’s Seat with the dog.
Watch an entire box-set of Homeland in the company of a bag of Doritos.
HAVE YOU GOT A FAVOURITE WHISKY THAT YOU’VE TRIED?
Possibly my all-time favourite was one of ours: a 2-casker of Bunnahabhain, almost Guinness coloured, fairly elderly…It was
like drinking Heaven. And if there’s no Adelphi available, I'll always ask for a Highland Park or a Springbank.
