1. What is the difference between a hippo

and a zippo? 2. Why did the apricot ask a prune to dinner? 3. I lost my job at the bank on my very first

day. A woman asked me to check her balance……so, I pushed her over.

Answers 1. A hippo is really heavy, and a zippo is a little lighter. 2. Because he couldn’t find a date.

Today, upon a bus, I saw a very beautiful woman and wished I were as beautiful.

When suddenly she rose to leave, I saw her hobble down the aisle.

She had one leg and used a crutch. But as she passed, she passed a smile. Oh, God, forgive me when I whine. I have two legs; the world is mine.

I stopped to buy some candy. The lad who sold it had such charm. I talked with him, he seemed so glad.

If I were late, it’d do no harm. As I left, he said to me,

“I thank you, you’ve been so kind. It’s nice to talk with folks like you.

You see,” he said, “I’m blind.” Oh God, forgive me when I whine. I have two eyes; the world is mine.

Later while walking down the street, I saw a child that I knew.

He stood and watched the others play, But he did not know what to do.

I stopped a moment and then I said, “Why don’t you join them dear?” He looked ahead without a word.

I forgot, he couldn’t hear. Oh, god, forgive me when I whine. I have two ears, the world is mine.

With feet to take me where I’d go. With eyes to see the sunset’s glow. With ears to hear what I’d know.

Oh, God, forgive me when I whine. I’ve been blessed indeed, the world is mine.

A Poem Submitted by Lynden Manor Resident, Helen Christiansen

Irish Toasts • May your neighbors respect you, trouble neglect you, the angels protect you, and heaven accept you. • May you live as long as you want, and never want as

long as you live. • May you live to be a hundred years, with one extra

year to repent. • May the Lord keep you in His hand and never close

His fist too tight. • As you slide down the banister of life, may the splin-

ters never point the wrong way.

Irish Sayings • Never iron a four leaf clover because you don’t want

to press your luck. • You’ve got to do your own growing no matter how

tall your father was. • Do not resist growing old, many are denied the privi-

lege. • Beautiful young people are works of nature, beautiful

old people are works of art.

Mardi Gras Fun (Bob Miller continued from page 1)

house for his family in Manchester, MO. In 1969 they sold that house and moved to Haden Lake, Idaho. They bought a small ranch and raised cattle and had horses. It was a hobby ranch and close to hunting and fishing. Soon he took the horses out of the stable and made it into an auto body and paint shop. Bob built such a good reputation for himself that he never had to advertise, the work just poured in. Jerry, a man Bob had worked with in Missouri, came to work with Bob at his shop in Idaho and stayed for 19 years.

Every fall Bob went elk hunting. He and Jerry each rode a horse and had an-other horse as a pack animal. They just hung a sign up on the door of the busi-ness that read: Gone Hunting - Back in 2 Weeks. It was during this time that Bob held Bible Study classes in his home. He did this for 17 years.

After retirement Barbara and Bob did a lot of camping. They headed off on the horses to the back country, camping along side creeks. They rode trails, hunted, fished, and scouted the countryside. The two were always very close and Barbara always wanted to go everywhere Bob went. They lived on that ranch until the city started moving in on them. They put it up for sale in 1997 and moved to a small town called Deary, ID. They lived on a mountainside and hunted over 100’s of acres.

Barbara passed away in Deary, ID in 2008. She had had a heart attack while Bob was out plowing snow. Bob continued to live in their home for another 3½ years and then moved in with his son in Athol, ID. When his son decided it was time to sell his home, Bob moved to Lynden to be close to his daughter Bonnie. He moved to Lynden Manor in November 2017. Bob’s family has grown to include 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 2½ great-great grandchildren.

The Gideon's have been, and continue to be, a big part of Bob’s life. He has been a member for the past 20 years. He has been a chaplain for the organiza-tion and has distributed Bibles in schools, colleges and on the street. “It’s the best thing I could have gotten involved with. It’s more like a church than the churches are. There are all denominations. Everyone works and prays togeth-er - what a group it is!” Bob’s attitude is, “we all need to be an encourage-ment and help somebody. When you’re not a help, you’re a hinderance.”

Bob has become our Bible Study leader here at Lynden Manor. He is also a great story teller and loves to recite poetry. He tells a wonderful story about his beautiful wife. Around the time of their 35th wedding anniversary they were shopping in a grocery store. A man came up to Bob and told him he needed to see the beautiful woman just down the aisle. Bob went up to her and gave her a big hug and a kiss. The other man looked astonished. Bob told him, “that’s my wife”. The man left the store.

Bob tells me he is so glad to be here at The Manor. In the few short months he’s been here he has made a lot of friends and built some good relationships. “I feel I can be of service to the Lord here and that’s all that matters.”
