Sri Lokmanya Tilak appealed to Swami Ramakrishnananda, direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Parmhamsa to start Ramakrishna Mission centre in Mumbai. The foundation stone for the Ashrama’s building was laid in February 1925. Charitable Dispensary and Hospital of the Mission was started in May 1924 within its premises.

Ramakrishna Mission started Medical camps in the year 1975 and Rural Health and Welfare Programme centre was inaugurated at Sakwar Village, Vasai in the year 1975.

Ramakrishna Mission Mumbai conducts many multi-facetted activities such as Library and Reading Room with a wide range of Books in various languages, Cultural activities like religious festivals, (Balwadis) Philanthropic like Relief and Rehabilitation programmes and Medical Services etc.

Ramakrishna Mission Hospital at Khar is well equipped 70 bedded Hospital with state of the art Opthalmology, ENT, and other departments and an excellent Surgical and Medical facilities treating more than One Lac patients in a Year. There is a free Charitable Dispensary with Allopathy and Homeopathy treatment facilities.

Ramakrishna Mission is celebrating 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda from the year 2011-2014.

Swami Vivekananda needs no introduction. He was the great lover of Humanity. One of the greatest spiritual leaders of the modern world. He was a great patriot, practically the first spiritual ambassador of India to the West, who raised the prestige of India in the eyes of Western people and changed their views about India with compelling force to truth.
