1 MAY 2016 5 th EDITION A message from our Chairman, Steve Churcher As you will all know by now, our first Annual General Meeting took place on the 11th April and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Dave Couldridge and Amy Weaver on to the Board of Directors and to thank the 75 or so members in attendance. At our subsequent Board Meeting, the following officers were elected:- Chairman Steve Churcher Vice Chairman Chris Drew Treasury and Finance Malcolm McLean Academy, Youth & Juniors John Gibbons Stadium and Facilities Dave Netherstreet Communications and PR Jim Rowe Well, our 2015/16 season came to an abrupt halt following our defeat in the play-off semi-final against East Thurrock and I would like to thank you all for your terrific support this season. I would also like to think you will all join me in applauding Steve McKimm, his players and the backroom staff for their efforts during the 2015/16 football season. When we originally invited Steve to take on the manager’s position at Longmead, we asked him to put a smile back on our faces; make us proud as well as improving our disciplinary record. I think all three have been achieved over the past two seasons and long may it continue! Our generous sponsors of the “Sponsor a Goal” ended up donating £94 each, raising a total of £1,504 which will provide a new professional travelling sprinkler system for the Longmead playing surface. The pitch itself undergoes its annual refurbishment starting the second week of May and will include the addition of over 60 tons of top dressing and nearly 20 bags of grass seed. The new sprinkler system is a welcome addition and will enable our grounds staff to ensure the pitch is evenly watered during the summer months. Who knows, we may even save a few shillings on our water bill! Our other major expense during the summer months will be to sort out our floodlights and we hope to have an “expert” contractor in shortly to advise us of the required course of action. We did try and replace some of the blown bulbs earlier in the year but unfortunately the required cherry picker was unable to get on to the pitch due to the prevailing ground conditions at the time. Fingers crossed that it will simply be a case of replacing the lamps at around £90 each rather than anything more expensive! As I mentioned in a recent programme, just because the football finishes our expenditure doesn’t and I cannot understate just how important our summer events are to the Club. If you can pop along to one or two events (or even all of them!), it does make a huge difference come the start of next season. Enjoy the summer. Steve.
