The Gathering The 6th Annual Gathering, Southeast Regional All Oldsmobile Show and Swap Meet was held Friday and Saturday, October 7-8, in the lovely, historic Cartersville, GA downtown district. Hosted by the Dixie Olds Club, an offi cial chapter of the OCA, a total of 45 beautiful Oldsmobiles with models ranging from the 1930’s to 2004 were present. Plus, we had cars from fi ve states registered for this year’s show! Our theme this year was “Peace Love & Olds” and the show t-shirt, along with the awards, featured tie-dye and Dr. Oldsmobile, which truly made it a festive and memorable event! Unlike last year, which was a total rain out, Mother Nature completely made up for it and provided a perfect day with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the 70s. A grand total of $1,100 was raised for the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum in Lansing, Michigan. Activities began Friday evening when a caravan formed at the host hotel, the Hilton Garden Inn, and proceeded to a cruise-in on the square in downtown Cartersville from 6 until 9pm. While there, many Oldsmobile friends got
together to visit and dine at some of the many fabulous restaurants in the downtown area. The next day, the show began on Saturday at 8 am and concluded at 3 pm with the presentation of awards. This year, during the awards presentation, there were four specialty awards. The R.E. Olds Museum Choice award presented by Joe Fotschky; the OCA President’s Choice Award award presented by Jerry Wilson; The Dixie Olds Club President’s Choice Award presented by
Doug Williams and the Dottie Roney Memorial Long Distance Award presented by John Roney. There were also 16 Best In Class awards and
ten Top 10 awards. To round out the day, there were numerous
raffl es for prizes and cash, plus a our special drawing
for a $100 cash prize for those who
preregistered for the show. Congratulations to Ronnie
Murray who was the winner of the preregistration drawing. See, it really does pay to register early! Also, huge congratulations and our surprised thanks go to Richard Stewart, the winner of the 50/50 raffl e which totaled up to a cool $117. He generously donated the money to the R. E. Olds Museum.

President’s Message (Continued from Page 1)We would also like to thank the Hilton Garden Inn for their comfortable facility and outstanding service; the City of Cartersville for allowing us the use of Founder’s Square where our cruise-in and show were held; and last but not least, the Cartersville Police Department who provided additional patrols to see that our vehicles remained safe and secure overnight during the weekend. Finally, the Dixie Olds Club would like to thank the many members who volunteered their time and talents as
well as their dedication, participation and input that helped to make this year’s show another big success. This is just one of the many reasons why membership has its privileges! The next few pages feature pictures of the activities, people and cars that made The Gathering a huge success. We hope to see you at next year’s show as a spectator, a participant or both! Watch for details in future issues of the Dixie Olds Club newsletter. Doug
The 2016 Gathering – Southeast Regional All Oldsmobile Car Show doesn’t happen overnight. As you can see in these photos, it takes many hours of planning along with many hours of volunteer labor to present a well-organized event. The homecooked BBQ from Nancy Wilson is just one of those little “bribes” that brings us all together and keeps us very happy as we put together goodie bags, assemble tents, and prepare the winners’ awards!

This past May 2016, the Oldsmobile Club of America’s offi cial magazine, Journey with Olds, dedicated an entire issue to veterans and their Oldsmobiles. To prepare that issue, Shannon Olson, editor of JWO, requested input from each OCA chapter and asked any and all veterans with Olds to submit their stories and accompanying pictures.Due to the positive response and reception of the Veterans issue, Shannon is planning another special issue that will feature stories from members (and non-members) who are, or have been, police offi cers, fi re fi ghters and/or EMTs and share a love for Oldsmobiles The issue will naturally be called “A Salute to Heroes: First Responders & Their Oldsmobiles” and is slated for distribution in May 2017. As with the fi rst “Salute to Heroes,” if a member is a 1st Responder, but does not want to share all of their information, that is just fi ne, however, the OCA would still like to have your fi rst and last names and if whether you were a police offi cer, fi re fi ghter or EMT. Also, you do not have to be a member of the OCA, Shannon’s goal is to honor as many Oldsmobile enthusiasts as possible who have devoted their lives to public service and safety. Please let me know who you are so we can begin compiling our list and ensure your story is included – email me at [email protected].
