A Message from Fr. Frank

"Miracles happen

every day . Lives

are changed and

transformed forever.

So much of what

we are able to do

is thanks to your

exceptional

generosity.."

It's hard to believe another summer has passed and another beautiful fall is upon us! Our new campus in Mount Sinai is overflowing with activity. The labyrinth has once again become an active place for daily walkers from all over seeking inner peace of mind.

The chapel of St. Francis has countless people throughout the day stopping in to say a prayer for themselves or for others. Brothers’ Bread continues to be a big hit. The bakery is open at 7 AM on Friday mornings. By late Sunday afternoon most weekends, the shelves are empty! We are forever grateful to the Anglican Society of St. Francis and the powerful ministry they embraced for almost 100 years on this holy ground.

All of our programs are oversubscribed with growing waiting lists. Staff continues to inspire and empower those in our care to stay the course and become all that they can be.

Siena House, Montfort Therapeutic Residence, Montfort Academy, The Sister Jean Beagan, OP Family and Children's Center, Pax Christi Hospitality Center, and the Kolbe Outpatient Treatment Center for Addictions continue to reach out to hundreds of needy people every month.

Miracles happen every day. Lives are changed and transformed forever. So much of what we are able to do is thanks to your exceptional generosity. Maintaining two very busy campuses has not only increased our operating budget substantially, but has also put greater demands upon our already exceptionally generous staff.

The heroin epidemic continues to take a growing number of young lives. The rhetoric is painfully inept and nonresponsive. We do not need more task forces or more empty political promises! We need more money, we need more beds, and we need more dedicated professionals who are willing to commit themselves to eradicating this epidemic and saving lives – because all life is sacred!

When I was assigned to the Port Jefferson community more than 36 years ago, never did I think I would be doing what I am doing now. I have lived on campus, not in a rectory or a religious house, but with more than 50 broken, wounded young men. Every day I see firsthand the miracles of transformation and change that take place. Some are small, others are not so small. I would not trade these past 36 years for anything else in the world.

The miracles that take place every day are God's doing. I'm just a weak instrument in his hand who is blessed with an extraordinary staff who love and reach out without limits or conditions. Providence has truly blessed us with so much.

A special thank you for all the cards, kind words, Mass cards and generous gifts that were sent and/or dropped off on behalf of my mother who passed away in May. She was an amazing woman with tremendous faith. I am forever grateful that she was my mother and for her extraordinary power of example. The world is better and brighter because she walked and loved among us.

in a drumming circle at the friary!

Please join us in the Chapel of St. Francis beginning Friday, November 4. The drumming circle will be held the first Friday of every month

A Great Summer of FishingAt the Kolbe Center, we have had a wonderful summer. Margaret Buckley contin-ues to take the residents on Thursday afternoon trips. This year they were fortunate to have the opportunity to go to a NYC museum, to a Yankee game, the Bronx Zoo and Montauk Lighthouse. Our traditional end of summer barbecue at Orient Point was

a success with great weather and lots of food all day.On August 23, the residents boarded the Celtic Grace for the 11th annual George Ehlers and Bobby Cunningham Memorial Fishing Trip. Margaret and Jeanne joined them for a sunny afternoon of fishing and sunshine. Bagels, coffee, soda, water, and snacks were provided. We greatly appre-ciate the generosity of Michael Ehlers, Joe Pirro, Bobby Cunningham, Lou Kron and others for providing this trip. On July 9th, the residents were also taken fishing aboard the craft of the sons of Margaret Buckley - the Orient Star out of Orient Point. This trip was generously provided by Neil McGoldrick, another great friend of Hope House. On both of these trips, the residents enjoyed a long, lazy afternoon in the sun and caught a lot of keepers. Thank you all for your kindness and generosity!

Ramp Rodeo Mustang Car Show raises over $1,200On Sunday, July 17th, Ramp Motors of Port Jefferson Station proudly hosted the Ramp Rodeo Mustang Car Show in con-junction with the Mustang & Shelby Club of Long Island. With over 300 cars on display by collectors from across the United States, visitors had an opportunity to see new and vintage Mustangs, including a rare 1966 Mustang Ranchero, also known as a “Mustero.”

The Mustang & Shelby Club of Long Island generously donat-ed $500 to Hope House in support our many programs. Additionally, Hope House staff and volunteers hosted a con-

cession stand at the show which raised an additional $700. We owe our success to the kindness and generosity

of our food, beverage and paper goods donors: Sabrett, DiCarlo Food Service, Port Jeff Beverage, North Shore Beverage, McNulty’s Ice Cream Parlor, Global Tissue Group, and the Bohn family.

A special thank you to Ramp Ford and the entire Rampone family who are long-time, dedicated sup-

porters of our Hope House Ministries family.

3rd Annual Mark Riedel Memorial Fishing Benefit raises over $8,700!As if he was giving his blessing, the family and friends of Mark Riedel were greeted with sunshine and a beautiful day as they boarded the Captree Star III on Saturday, July 9, to par-ticipate in a day of fishing in his honor. Mark

was an avid fisherman who passed away in October of 2013 at the tender age of 27. To commemorate his life, his family has chosen to have this annual fishing trip to benefit Hope House Ministries. This year's event raised over $8,700! Thank you all who helped make this day so special.

2nd Annual Jake Engel Hoops for Hope Tournament raises over $2,100 for HHM!

After the heart-wrenching loss of their 22 year-old son and brother to a heroin overdose in August 2015, the family of Jacob Engel and their friends joined together to celebrate Jake’s life by hosting an annual basketball tournament in his memory at Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai to honor his love of the sport and of the beach. This year's proceeds of the tournament were donated to Hope House where Jake had lived several years ago, and to Miller Place High School for a scholarship in Jake's name. On behalf of the Engel family and the Hope House Ministries family, we extend our sincere thanks for all the support shown by the community.

Remembering Mark & Jake...
