in Liverpool in 1960

Group members were:

John Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, StuartSutcliffe and Pete Best

period from 1960.

They achieved mainstream success in the

for thirty weeks,

only to be displaced by With The Beatles which

itself held the top spot for twenty-one weeks.

burgeoning youth culture.

Because of the intensive concert programs,

the band grew increasingly bored with the

routine of concert touring

Because of some personal and managerial

problems they declared they broke the band

on 10 April 1970

Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, and Starr all

released solo albums in 1970

They sometimes came together but they

never worked on common projects again.

Lennon was shot and killed on 8 December 1980, in

New York City

a compilation album released on 2000.

It became the fastest-selling album of all time, with3.6 million sold in its first week and over 12 million

in three weeks worldwide
