Bird seed mixturesThere are many different mixes for different feeders and ground feeding.

A small seed such as millet attracts mostly house sparrows, finches, and reed buntings.

Flaked maize is hugely popular with blackbirds.

Black Sunflower seeds are fantastic all year round food. The Sunflower hearts are a popular alternative being less messy!

Niger seed has high oil content and is a favourite amongst goldfinches.

Peanuts are a good fat source and popular with greenfinches and house sparrows to name a few. Salted or dry roasted peanuts should not be used.

Fat Balls and other fat based food bars are an excellent winter food.

Mealworms are thoroughly enjoyed by robins and blue tits; they may attract other insect-eating birds such as pied wagtails. These can be fed throughout the year.

Cooked brown or white rice is eaten by a vast number of birds during the winter months. Uncooked rice may be fed but you may only attract pigeons and doves.
