Contracted consultants to research and lead
development of documents

Resulted in the creation of four new documents:
Code of Ethics for Licensed Practical Nurses in Canada (CoE)
Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses in Canada (SoP)
Entry to Practice Competencies for Licensed Practical Nurses (ETPC)
Requisite Skills and Abilities: Becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse in Canada
(RSA)

Guides curriculum & promotes public &
employer awareness of practice

“Competency Profile for LPNs” in Alberta
Requisite Skills & Abilities (RSA)
Identifies the requirements necessary
for an individual to engage in LPN
practice:

Informs the public & practitioners
Guides those seeking a career as an
LPN
Let’s start at the basics! What is Ethics?
The study of morality
Morality is the values dimension of human decision-
making and behaviour.
Ethics is primarily a matter of knowing what is right,

A set of principles and

There are four Standards to which
LPNs are accountable:
1. Professional Accountability & Responsibility
2. Knowledge-Based Practice
3. Service to the Public & Self-Regulation
4. Ethical Practice
