A New Year, a new start, a clean slate. Different ways we often like to

look at the change of one year to another. We often look at a new year as a time

to change, not just the calendar, but our lives as well.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but... research shows that about 80

percent of people who make resolutions on Jan. 1 fall off the wagon by

Valentine’s Day, according to Marti Hope Gonzales, an associate professor of

psychology at the University of Minnesota.

Such revelations will hardly come as a surprise to the repeat offenders

who year after year make, and break, the same resolutions. But while change

may be difficult, psychotherapists, addiction counselors and life coaches said,

it is not impossible. That’s the good news.

How? I’m told we need to act as the person we want to become.

And probably even more important, we can’t do it alone.

Of course we could just say, “I’m not going to make any changes this

year.” If that’s how we feel, here are some words to contemplate.

Do not consider the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do

a new thing. Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? Isaiah 43:18-19

Change is not an option. Our God is a God of change. He transforms us

into a new creation through baptism. He recreates our lives and hopefully our

living through the power of the Holy Spirit.

One of my favorite books by Max Lucado is subtitled, God accepts us the

way we are, He just doesn’t leave us that way.

Many things in our lives won’t change this year, hopefully. But we can

be sure something will. What that may be, I don’t know. But why not begin this

year drawing closer to our Lord, whose love never changes. Commit yourselves

to seeking him out even more,

through prayer, Bible study,

fellowship, and worship. You

may just discover that he’s the

one you need to aid you in the

changes that surprise you, and

assist you in the changes you need

to be the person he created you

to be.

Kindred Sisters invite all ladies and friends of Lord of

Life to join them on the First Tuesday morning of each

month.

Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 10:30 am in Koinonia Café

will be our first meeting of 2011. Pastor Dave will lead us

in a Bible Study.

Hostesses are: Marge Kretschmar and Olga Haenel

Questions: Marge Kretschmar 258-2988 and/or Glenace Klinker 671-3690

Our Annual Christmas Potluck at Glenace Klinker’s home was highlighted with a violin

musical program by Glenace’s four neighbor children, ages 8 – 11 years, playing Christmas

music. A hand-clapping fiddle song was their encore. The day was completed with the

viewing of Ted’s outside train displays, Glenace’s Santa Collection, and a very tasty lunch

provided by all. It was a most wonderful way to begin the Christmas Season.

Year 2011 Kindred Sisters HOSTESS Chart is on Board in Café … Please sign accordingly.

LWR Health Kits … We will again do Health Kits, as they are desperately needed via

LWR. A Health Kit Box is in the Welcome Center for your donations.

December was an exciting time for Lord of Life's Youth! They started off December by

putting up the Giving Tree and decorating it with all the tags for gifts for Hill Country

Community Ministries, Hill Country Nazarene Church Food Pantry, and gas gift cards for

the Pastor's Discretionary Fund. It was a wonderfully successful giving season! Almost

all 90 tags were removed from the tree. Thank you everyone! The youth then went carol-

ing on December 4th to Trinity Care Center, Parkwood Meadows and Hearthstone Health

Center. It was wonderful to watch the various residents singing along, clapping and just

smiling. At Parkwood the youth were able to mingle with the residents, and they were

hugged, kissed and thanked. They were told how these songs brought back wonderful

memories for them. Truly the spirit of Christmas of bringing joy to people was experienced

this evening. The night was topped off by dinner at Mesa Rosa! The final activity with

the youth was Live Nativity on December 17th. Almost the entire youth group partici-

pated in this event. It was a wonderful sight to see them together in costumes and re-

creating the night Jesus was born. The kids then were able to share a meal together in the

cafe, hang out and make gingerbread houses!

New hours for pickup at Lord of Life are 9:30 – 10:30 am.

January Distribution Saturday is January 29, 2011. Last Order Sunday is January 16, 2011. Order forms and information are

at www.lordoflifeaustin.org, and at LOLLC’s WELCOME CENTER. Ordering is now available online at

www.angelfoodministries.com – two of our Davis Spring neighbors used it in December.

Angel Food Ministries (AFM) JANUARY Menu includes Eight Boxes plus Three Special Boxes. A Choice Beef Roast, IQF

Chicken Breast, and Meatballs are featured in the Signature “Bread of Life” Box ($31) along with 15 other items. The

terrific value “Bountiful Blessing” ($41) Box also features the same plus 20 other items. Just 4 Me boxes (3 various ones)

have become popular. Convenience ($28), NY Strip Steak ($24), and the Fruit/Veggies ($23) Boxes are available too along

with the Allergen Free Food Box ($25).

The Just 4 Me – No Child Goes Without is a donation box to Mission Possible Austin. AFM has Partnered with them to help

provide No Child Goes Without boxes of food to children in need in the inner city area of east Austin. Mission Possible works

with at-risk children and their families in East Austin. At a young age, children in the inner-city government housing

communities are exposed to violence, drug abuse and neglect that give way to fear, low self esteem and hopelessness, limiting

their ability to succeed. They are at-risk because they are vulnerable to behaviors that are destructive to themselves and their

communities. To help break this cycle of poverty, MP works with local community leaders and partner to create long-term,

sustainable community development. All of their programs provide relationships with positive, caring adult role models.

They provide an environment that offers physical safety, tangible support, acceptance, and love. They believe these factors

are necessary to help at-risk children learn different behaviors and experience the love of Christ.

Please tell your friends and neighbors about this food relief/budget saving program … remember, EVERYONE and ANYONE

can participate in AFM. No qualifications … just be hungry. Thank you for all the Donations that have helped our church

family, as they are very much appreciated. If you know of anyone that would be helped with AFM, please contact Pastor

Dave.

Are you willing to help take orders on the Last Order Sunday and/or help with Distribution Saturday? We hope so … Any

questions and willingness to help with this Outreach Ministry Opportunity, please contact Pastor Dave 671-6100 or

Glenace Klinker 671-3690

LOL Kid's Day Out offers a professionally designed

curriculum, with age appropriate lesson plans and monthly

newsletters to keep parents informed.

Children learn through hands-on structured activities and

play in our learning centers. The classrooms are organized

as optimal learning environments. Centers are activities set

up in the classrooms where children can find hands-on

materials related by theme, interest and skills. These

activities may be used independently by the children and

with teacher direction to enforce and enrich children's

concepts and skills they need. These learning environments

are used to individualize and enrich the curriculum to meet

each young child's mind with a broad variety of activities.
