What to expect: These trips feature long touring days with travel via motor coach, ship, zodiac, all-terrain vehicle, or train. Travelers are required to board transportation without assistance as well as stand and walk over uneven terrain for extended periods of time. Sometours may include optional higher-intensity activities and travel at higher altitudes with steepascents and descents. Outings last 4–6 hours most days.

Suitable for: Travelers who are able to comfortably walk four to six miles, or 6,900–9,200steps, each day.

Day 3 | Singapore

Transfer and check in to the Shangri-La Hotel.

Gather for a Welcome Reception tonight.

Day 4 | Singapore

Enrichment: Contemporary Singapore.

Discovery: Singapore. Explore Singapore’ssights on a panoramic tour. Pass by the toweringMarina Bay Sands resort, Merlion Park and themythical Merlion, a statue that has a head of a lionand the body of a fish. Drive through the Civic District by the Padang, Cricket Club, ParliamentHouse, Supreme Court, City Hall and more. Thenvisit Thian Hock Keng Temple, Singapore’s oldest Chinese temple where intricate carvings are interspersed with statues of mythical beasts.

Discovery: Multicultural Singapore. Marvelat the breadth of Singapore’s diverse cultures andrich history. Begin with an excursion throughKampong Glam, a Malay enclave that originatedas a fishing village at the mouth of the RochorRiver. This area of Singapore is known for its thriving gelam trees that were used for buildingships. Explore Chinatown’s shophouses and LittleIndia’s exotic flower and spice market.

Day 5 | Singapore | Eastern & Oriental Express

Discovery: Peranakan Heritage. The region’sPeranakan community arrived in PeninsularMalaysia and Singapore between the 15-17thcenturies and settled in port towns. Come face-to-face with Singapore’s rich, multiculturalheritage as you visit a Peranakan enclave.

Meet a family who shares secrets of Chinesedumplings and enjoy a taste of this regional favorite. Then visit a local home to learn abouttraditional beadwork and embroidery. This type of needlework is an important aspect ofPeranakan heritage.

Gather for a lunch of local favorites.

This afternoon, board the opulent Eastern & Oriental Express and begin your rail journey.Cross into Malaysia and watch the cityscape fade into a lush rural tapestry.

Tonight, stop briefly at Kuala Lumpur’s colonialtrain station, a Moorish-style building.

Day 6 | Kuala Kangsar, Malaysia

PYJ | Choose one of these excursions:

•Traditional Village Experience. Immerseyourself in traditional Malaysian culture during avisit to a rural village. See a dance performance,taste regional flavors and browse locally produced handicrafts. Learn about planting andharvesting rice, and enjoy a visit to a plantationthat grows banana and durian fruits.

•Countryside Hill Trek. Begin your excursionat a banana and durian fruit plantation and sample freshly made chips. Stretch your legs during an uphill walk with a guide. Nature loverswill delight in the surrounding scenery while learning about the region’s local wildlife and ecological treasures. Take in stunning panoramicviews from atop the hill! (Active)

Back on the train, enjoy a full afternoon at leisureto lounge and converse. Relax with a cocktail in the open-air Observation Car and revel in thepassing landscape of rice paddies and rollingcountryside.

Day 7 | Kanchanaburi, Thailand | Bangkok

PYJ | Choose one of these excursions:

•Kanchanaburi and Kwai Yai River. Cruiseon the Kwai Yai River, skimming beneath the historic Bridge over the River Kwai, and learnabout the Thailand-Burma railway from a historian. Continue to the North Temple and Chinese Cemetery, and visit the Thailand-BurmaRailway Centre to see exhibits and photographs.

•Cycle Tour. Journey to an agricultural village to begin an hour-long bicycle tour. Ride by ricefields before stopping at a local farm for refreshments and a demonstration. Then stepinto an ancient-style wooden house for a relaxingherbal infusion. (Active)

•Culinary Tour. Join a guide for a visit to a colorful wet market and tour a rice noodle house.Board a riverboat at Wat Nue Pier and sail alongthe River Kwai. Delight in a Thai cooking class onboard. Later, you may choose to visit the ChongKai War Cemetery.

Conclude your rail journey in Bangkok and transfer to the Peninsula Bangkok.

Day 8 | Bangkok

Enrichment: Thailand’s History and Culture.

Discovery: Vibrant Bangkok. Discover riverlife as you cruise the Chao Phraya River andThonburi canals. Bangkok merchants still usethe canals for travel and to transport their merchandise. Disembark and visit the GrandPalace and Emerald Buddha Temple. Take a tuk-tuk ride to Wat Pho to see the Reclining Buddha.This temple that sprawls over eight hectares isalso considered the country’s first university.

Delight in the culinary pleasures of Thai cuisineduring lunch at the Blue Elephant, a prestigiousrestaurant housed in a century-old building alongthe historical Sathorn Road.

Free Time: The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure in Bangkok. Browse for souvenirs or delight in a sweet iced coffee.

ELECTIVE | Sala Rim Naam. Immerseyourself in Thai culture during a Thai dance showand a savory dinner of mouthwatering cuisine.

Day 9 | Ayutthaya

Discovery: Ayutthaya. Visit the European-style Bang Pa-In Palace, a summer residence forthe kings of Thailand with ornamental ponds, anelegant Thai-style pavilion and a Thai Buddhisttemple. Continue to the World Heritage site ofAyutthaya, Thailand’s ancient capital from 1350-1767. The storied grounds feature brick ruins,lion guardian statues, seated Buddha figuresand many other amazing artifacts. Board a boatto cruise along the Chao Phraya River towardBangkok. Enjoy a delicious lunch on board whileviewing elaborate temples, markets and otherscenes of local life along the banks. Upon yourreturn to Bangkok, enjoy an evening at leisure.

Day 10 | Siem Reap, Cambodia

After breakfast, fly to Siem Reap, Cambodia.Upon arrival, transfer to the Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf and Spa Resort.

Discovery: Discover Siem Reap. Discoverthis quaint provincial capital as you tour SiemReap in a tuk-tuk. The city offers a bounty ofwell-preserved colonial buildings, small cafes,souvenir shops, art galleries and more. Visit anart and dance center to see demonstrations.

Day 11 | Siem Reap

Discovery: Angkor Wat. Discover the storiedwonders of Angkor Wat. Built in the 12th century, it is the largest temple in the world andthe crown jewel of the Angkor ArchaeologicalPark. Originally dedicated to the Hindu godVishnu, the temple eventually became filled with

Buddhist elements as the new religion spreadthrough the empire. See the gallery of bas-reliefmurals, one of the highlights of the temple.

AHI Connects: Local Life. Uncover culinary traditions with a local family who showsyou how to make rice noodles, a local specialty.

Free Time: You may enjoy visiting the Old Market during free time today.

What to expect: These trips feature long touring days with travel via motor coach, ship, zodiac, all-terrain vehicle, or train. Travelers are required to board transportation without assistance as well as stand and walk over uneven terrain for extended periods of time. What to expect: These trips feature long touring days with travel via motor coach, ship, zodiac, all-terrain vehicle, or train. Travelers are required to board transportation without assistance as well as stand and walk over uneven terrain for extended periods of time. What to expect: These trips feature long touring days with travel via motor coach, ship, zodiac, all-terrain vehicle, or train.
