School is out, so that means that summer is here! Summer is a great time at
our house. Our kids are home and we get to enjoy some things that we do not
ordinarily get to do. Summer is also very busy for us. Paige and I were talking
just the other day about how between now and the middle of July someone in
our family is doing something somewhere every week. I'm tired just thinking
about it. Summers are busy times for churches as well, but it also provides
some unique ministry opportunities. What are some ways you can use your
summer for the glory of God and the work of His Kingdom? Here are a few
ways you can make summer a season of serving. You can volunteer with our food pantry (a great
way for families to serve together). You can volunteer with VBS (a great way to model your faith to
children and families). You can go on the South Texas mission trip (a great place for families to serve
together). You can host a block party for your neighborhood (a great way to love your neighbors as
yourself). You can volunteer as a sponsor for children's or youth camp (a great way to pour into the
lives of others). You can attend church and invite friends to come with you (a great way to show
people the love of Jesus). These are a few ways you can serve in our church and community. I
would love to hear some of your ideas as well.
While many churches experience a slump in the summer, we typically see a large number of first time
guests. This is very exciting. Keeping this in mind let me encourage you in a couple of things. First,
let me encourage you to stay committed to Sunday worship and Sunday School Small Groups this
summer. Your presence helps our guests get a real feel for who we are and what we are about. Plus,
when you are here that means that our guests are sure to be welcomed warmly. Second, when you
see a new face, do not hesitate to go introduce yourself and invite your new friend to sit with you
during worship and Bible Study. Third, follow up with your new friend in the week following their visit.
If you can, encourage them to submit a Connect Card so our staff can follow up as well. Remember,
God is constantly weaving people into the fabric of our church.
This summer I will be preaching a series that I have named 'Called.' The series comes from the
conviction that I have that all of us are called by God for His purpose. A call of God does not always
mean that you will be a pastor or a missionary. But, it does mean that God has something specially
created for you to do. Through the months of June and July we will be looking at the call of different
characters from the Scriptures. I am praying that you will clearly hear God's call and that you will
welcome it, embrace it, and obey it.

Summer Study kicks off THIS SUNDAY at 9:45am in the Fellowship Hall. It is open to all adults and will feature Cynthia Hopkins teaching through Luke 8 during the month of June, and Jordan Whittington teaching in July on select passages from Judges. To kick things off, we will have the Big Breakfast on Sunday, so bring some goodies to share with everyone…AND, if that wasn’t enough to entice you, Troy and I will be flipping pancakes! Hope to see
you this summer in the fellowship hall for a great time of inter-generational Bible study.
Be sure and welcome our new Youth Minister, Joshua Price! We are so excited to be fully
staffed.
I’m excited to announce we are going to begin a Bible class for ESL adults beginning on June 11 at 9:45am during the regular Bible Study hour. They will meet in Room 1010 through July until we find them a permanent home. Please pray for this group, and if you know adults
who would benefit from this learning environment, please invite them to join us!
Summer Schedule
Are you in town this Summer? If so, we would love for you to join us. On Sundays, we are joining with the whole church during the Sunday School time slot in the Fellowship Hall for an intergenerational group time. This will be a great time to meet and connect with people from
all generations in the church.
Summer Small Group - On Wednesday nights at 7:00pm we are having a summer small group for all students. The group will meet at the Poe's each evening for a time to hang out,
enjoy dessert, and study together.

With the end of the school year comes a change in our Music Ministry schedule. Each summer our Instrumental Ensemble, handbell choirs, and W.A.M. take some time off before
resuming in late summer about the time school resumes.
One of the groups that does not take the entire summer off is our Sanctuary Choir. I’ve said for a long time that the summer is a great time to become involved in our choir. We’re not preparing for any major productions, so you can come into a more relaxed rehearsal time
and less stressful worship leadership schedule.
This summer a “more relaxed rehearsal time” means we will have no rehearsals in July. We’ll still sing each Sunday, but we’ll use the rehearsals in June to prepare music for the following month. We still meet each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm, so I’d like to invite you
to come and sit in on a rehearsal and see what you think.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS WELCOMED
Summer is a time when many of our children and youth attend camps. Through the
generosity of our church members we are often able to assist families that otherwise would
not be able to send their children to camp. Donations for camp scholarships are always
appreciated and put to good use helping our children and youth grow in their faith.

Sham or myself.
Please be in prayer for all of our youth and adult leaders who will be attending Super Summer and MissionLab! Pray that our students will grow as leaders at Super Summer and that we will live out Isaiah 52:7 as we share Jesus with those who we serve and talk with at
MissionLab.

REV. O.C. COOPER FATHER’S
DAY OFFERING
Coming Sunday, June 18
Rev. O.C. Cooper, Sr.
was serving as pastor of
the First Baptist Church of
Hempstead, Texas when
he retired. He and his wife
Clara moved to College
Station to be near family,
and he opened a clock repair shop in his home.
He had repaired clocks since he was young and
this hobby helped bring in extra income after he
retired.
When he died, his son (Dr. O.C. Cooper, Jr.)
went through the things in his clock repair shop
and found a fruitcake tin with a slot in it, some
money inside, and a label on top that stated “The
Lord's Money.” Apparently, each time his father
got paid for repairing a clock, or sold a clock he
had restored, he put 10% of the income in the
can for a tithe to be donated to the church. His
son took the money from this can and donated it
to the church as his father had intended.
Dr. Cooper was deeply touched by his father's
money tin and decided to use it as an example to
encourage church members to be faithful in
tithing. He asked the church to begin the Rev.
O.C. Cooper Father's Day offering in honor of his
father. It has since become an annual offering
given on Father's Day, so that all church
members may honor their fathers with this
special offering.
If you already participate in this annual special
offering, bless you and thank you. If not, perhaps
this year is the perfect time for you to get your
own tin and fill it with your own special Father’s
Day Offering. Tins may be brought to the altar
during the regular offering on June 18. If you
would like to get your tin returned so you may
reuse it for next year, please label the bottom of
the tin.
For God so loved the world, that he
gave his only Son, that whoever
believes in him should not perish but
have eternal life. -John 3:16
