I want to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you for your support over the past three and a half years as I worked on my doctorate. Your words of encouragement and support helped me finish the race. I am especially indebted to each of you who participated in the community ministry and missional community phases of the project last fall. Thank you for your words of congratulations over the past several weeks. I could not have walked across the stage this past Saturday in Abilene without you. You affirmed my decision to start the journey. You walked with me through it. You spurred me on along the way, and we finished the race together. I am indebted to you, my church family, because of your ongoing support. I am humbled and honored to be your pastor, and count it a great privilege to serve as your shepherd. I've been thinking quite a bit lately about connections. We are such a connected people, although in different ways. We are connected to family. We are connected to friends. We are connected to the world via the internet. We connect with acquaintances through social media. We are connected to our church. We are connected to God through Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Scripture, and prayer. When you begin to think about all our connections, we find that we are connected to different groups. Within each of these groups there are different people with whom we connect. But, when you stop to think about it, we are connected to others because God created us for connection. Taking that thought a little further, God created us to connect with him and with one another. He calls his followers to remain connected through the local church, the body of Christ. Even within the church we have groups which with we connect. The connection groups help us to connect with God, connect with one another, and connect with FBC. Then, these connection groups enable us to invite people in to connect with us as well. All of this is to say that I am glad that we are connected in this body, that you are connecting with one another (or at least should be), and that God gives us ample opportunities each day to make connections with others so that they might become connected with our church family and our connection groups. God is a people connector. Will you help someone connect with Him? Let me encourage you to keep praying for our church family. God is at work! Over the next few weeks we will be celebrating baptisms as we continue to welcome new members to our family. With all these great things occurring in the life of our church, let us not become lax in our prayer for our church. It becomes easy to slack off when good things are happening. Instead, let us redouble our prayer efforts for our church, staff, leaders, and especially our summer events. God has presented us with some amazing opportunities to impact people's eternity this summer through VBS, camps, and mission trips. Summer is upon us and that means our kids, youth, and college students are going to be scattered attending camps, participating in mission trips, travelling, working, and spending time at home with family. Please keep each of these important groups in mind as you pray. Summer is an excellent time for spiritual growth through different events. Pray that our kids,

youth and students will seek God in all they do throughout the summer.

FBC-U is just around the corner! This summer’s theme is Local Ministry Partners. Each week, we will be hearing from the organizations that we partner with here in the Brazos Valley to spread the gospel. We will start on Sunday, June 11 and run through the month of July. All sessions will be in the Fellowship Hall and start at 6 p.m. I hope you make plans to

attend. Here is the line-up:

June 11: Emmanuel Lighthouse June 18: Still Creek Ranch June 25: BSM July 2: Discovery

July 9: Hope Pregnancy July 16: Twin City Mission July 23: South Texas Mission Trip July 30: Save Our Streets

We’ve discovered that it’s difficult for some of our groups to continue to meet and rehearse during the summer months. This is particularly true of some of our smaller groups, such as our handbell choir or our instrumental ensemble. Scheduling issues always arise when we must work around family schedules and church events such as Vacation Bible School, mission trips, and various camps. In addition, if we have college students involved in any of

these groups, we often lose them when they go home for the summer.

So, for the summer our Sanctuary Bells, Instrumental Ensemble, and our Children’s Choir/W.A.M. programs will not be meeting. They’ll all be resuming in August and September.

Watch our web site for information on the starting dates as we get further into summer.

Not all groups shut down for the summer. One of our primary worship leadership groups, Sanctuary Choir will continue to rehearse for most of the summer. The choir is open to everyone, so if you’ve been a part of one of the groups that doesn’t meet this summer, singing with the choir is a great way to keep your musical skills honed. Although choir will not rehearse during the month of July, we will continue to sing and lead on a regular basis all

summer long.

School will be out for the summer on May 25. I know our youth will be looking for something fantastic to do this summer! Why not consider coming along with us on our summer camp/mission trip? We will have a great time, serving and worshiping the Lord. Here’s all the

information you need to get signed up:

June 25-30 * MissionLab in New Orleans * This is our summer camp/mission trip. We will stay at New Orleans Baptist Seminary, presenting the Gospel and serving various ways in the city of New Orleans during the day. At night, we will engage with other students in worship and hear challenging messages from God's Word! The cost is $325. (Scholarships are available to help with costs.) This includes all meals, lodging, & transportation for the week, except meals traveling to and from New Orleans. A $50 deposit is due within 10 days following registration. You can register on our website at www.focused students/events and

scrolling down the page until you see MissionLab.

The South Texas Mission Team

still needs someone to head up our

construction efforts & help with project

estimations. If you have these skills, your

church needs YOU! Don’t assume

someone else will step up for this vital

position. Please email Larry Isham at

[email protected] for more

information.

Bronwyn Stanley, Minister to Children [email protected]

It’s almost time for Vacation Bible School! Online registration is now open. If you are interested in volunteering but have not signed up, please see Jennifer or Bronwyn to see where our needs are at this time. There are some other ways you can help us prepare to

serve the children who will attend VBS.

1) It takes lots of cookies to have snack time every night. You may donate store-bought, kid-friendly cookies for this purpose. No nuts, please. There is a collection

bin outside the church office.

2) We like to pamper our volunteers. The area affectionately known as the “Nibble Nook” needs homemade goodies to help us do so. Please call the church office or

Kathy Jackson to donate.

3) Pray. Let’s cover VBS in prayer! Pray for our volunteers, staff and the children to

have a fantastic week learning and teaching about the God of the universe!

Registration is now open for this summer’s FirstKids Camp! Camp will be July 10-14 at Trinity Pines Conference Center in Trinity, TX. If your child has completed third through sixth grade they may attend. The cost for this incredible week filled with Bible study, recreation, worship and more is $265. Brochures are available at the church. A $100 deposit is due at

registration. Bring a friend and share the fun!

Registration is also now open for all of our summer First Kids’ Fun Days! Check out

http://fbcfirstkids.com/events/special-events for the complete schedule.

Calling all TAMU Employees - I want to meet with you! After my first year ministering on campus, I would love to learn from you. I would like to visit your office some time to get your insight on campus, the student body, and ways you think we could effectively minister to students. I know many of you work on campus, but I am not sure I know everyone that is affiliated. If you can, please send an email to me at [email protected] and let me know if, when, and where we could meet. You are experts on campus life and I would love to garner your insight as I seek to better reach the multitude of students who come to

live in our community each year.
