Graduating this year?Back to school with PCT

Don’t be surprised to find PCT inthe lesson plan at Port Moodyschools. PCT has developed a

School Program that connects theclassroom with the community allow-ing students to see how conceptslearned in school are used in a PortMoody business.

As a thriving, local terminal operat-ing in the international arena, PCTcan provide real-life examples ofconcepts studied in Social Science,Business, Career Planning and othersubjects. From K-12, PCT offers stu-dents of all ages the opportunity tosee how their schooling is applied inthe community.

While students may study orresearch PCT in the classroom, ahighlight for many is PCT’s site tour.Students see the mountains of sulphur up close, and high schoolstudents watch as entire railcars arerotated and emptied of their contentsin the Rotary Car Dumper.

PCT’s interactive approach to classroom studies has been a hit with teachers as well. For more information, read about teacher LindaZiraldo’s experience on the nextpage, or visit the “For Teachers” section of our website at www.pct.ca

Russ Ladd explains how PCT’s Shiploader fills ships with Sulphur.

Tell me about your experience usingthe PCT school program. We were working on a Unit of Rocksand Minerals in Science. We integrat-ed the study of sulphur and its usesinto our studies. Prior to our field tripto PCT, we viewed the video about thePCT plant and we also visited the PCTwebsite.

How valuable was the on site tour? The on site tour provided studentswith an exciting experience to followup our classroom studies, the videoand website explorations. The tour alsoallowed students to see up close thevarious operations at the PCT plant.

What was students’ reaction to the tour?Students enjoyed the tour of the PCTplant. They enjoyed seeing the moun-
