•Bastille Day celebrates the Storming of The Bastille (July 14, 1789) which was a fortress and a prison in France where prisoners of influence were held, in hopes of capturing ammunition

One tradition is a an enormous and colorful military parade that marches down the Champs Elysees on the morning of July 14

•Fireworks are displayed at the Eiffel Tower

•The Bal du 14 juillet is a giant dance party, traditionally held on the place where The Bastille once stood. It is held on July 13.

The Birth of Bastille DayBastille Day was declared a French national holiday on July 6, 1880. Benjamin Raspail proposed a law to have "the Republic choose the 14 July as a yearly national holiday“
