MAY OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST ENCOURAGE YOUR HEARTS and strengthen them in every good deed and word, we hear today from Thessalonians. Through ON MISSION FOR THE CHURCH ALIVE! we pray that the Holy Spirit will encourage us to be open to consider the ways in which draft

models for new parishes can help invigorate and strengthen our local Church. (Our parish consultation sessions will be held this Wednesday, November 9, at 7:00 p.m. in the church; and will repeat on Tuesday, November 15, at 7:00 p.m. in the church.) Following the second meeting the draft models will be available at OnMissionChurchAlive.org .

PARISH CONSULTATIONS ON MISSION FOR THE CHURCH ALIVE!

Mark you calendars! Bishop Zubik’s grand initiative, On Mission for The Church Alive!, comes to SEAS Parish for two consultation:

Wednesday, November 9, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Tuesday, November 15, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The initiative is meant to reconfigure all our resources—churches, property, priests, volunteers, worshipers, and donations—toward the mission of Christ and his Church. There are dramatic proposals on the table. We’ve got a lot of discernment and deliberation ahead of us, until the final decisions are made in 2018, and we’ll need your help. Please attend one or both sessions.

If someone you love is homebound, hospitalized, or sent to a long-term care facility, it’s likely that your parish won’t know it!

Admissions personnel don’t always record religious affiliation;

Even if they do, privacy laws make it risky for healthcare institutions to notify churches;

Even if a minister visits, it’s not always easy to find patients’ names and rooms. So please notify us. Email pastoral associate Tess Keddie at [email protected] or call her at 412-276-1011 ext. 221. She’ll work with you to arrange for monthly Holy Communion, the sacrament of Anointing if warranted, or other support.

Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday, November 6. Be sure to set your clocks back one hour the night before, or you’ll be an hour early for Mass!

Please remember to vote on Tuesday, November 8.

—Fr. Dave

On November 11, we revere all our veterans: those who rest in honored glory, those who still suffer from the wounds of war, those currently serving our country, and those who, with us, enjoy the blessing of living in the land of the free and the home of the brave. O God, thank You for the selfless sacrifice of these veterans and of their families. Help us to remember them, to pray for them, and to care for them. Please bring all our departed veterans into Your Kingdom, and console their families with Your unfailing love. Please heal our wounded veterans through the power of Your Holy Spirit, and give to all our veterans the satisfaction of having served You, as they have served us. Thank You for Your gifts of life, liberty, and the pursuit of

happiness. May we fight to keep these rights available to all. Amen.

SOMETIMES THE BEST WAY TO EVANGELIZE IS TO PRAY!

Election Day is upon us! Hopefully we’ve all done our duty in regard to becoming informed about options,

possibilities, candidates, so that we can make Godly decisions based on Catholic principles and values.

Our own Bishop Zubik recently wrote: “As we approach the upcoming election, which has profound

implications for our nation and our world, we must do so in prayer. Let us pray that all people will vote in

good conscience, seeking the common good and the dignity of all human persons, even when the choices

before them seem neither good nor dignified. We must pray that, no matter what the results of the election,

our people will work to build a civilization of love, hope and peace. Many people are wrestling with their

conscience over the ballot choices, and we must do everything possible to help them hear God’s guidance

for how to promote a culture of life and a nation of justice for all.”

To this end, we follow Bishop Zubik’s request and will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament available from

8:30-11:30 and 12:30-4:00 on Monday, November 7th. Throughout the day, whenever you can, for as long as

you can, come and join us before the Lord present in the Eucharist and ask for God to guide our nation and to

shape our consciences. Pray for all of our political leaders, present and future, to support laws and promote

programs that respect human life at every stage, promote peace among people and nations, care for God’s

creation, preserve religious freedom and protect those who are the most poor and vulnerable.

Members of our Partners In Prayer prayer ministry will be available during the 2nd quarter of each hour to lead

all present in corporate prayer. Quiet time for personal prayer will be available during each hour, along with

handouts of prayers that you can take with you, so as to continue your praying, and to share with others.

Remember, Hearts Speak to Hearts …

… about Jesus Christ and how he taught us to live.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“An authentic faith…always involves a deep desire to change the world, to transmit values, to leave
this earth somehow better than we found it. We love this magnificent planet on which God has put us,
and we love the human family which dwells here, with all its tragedies and struggles, its hopes and
aspirations, its strengths and weaknesses. The earth is our common home and all of us are brothers
and sisters. If indeed “the just ordering of society and of the state is a central responsibility of politics,
the Church, “cannot and must not remain on the sidelines in the fight for justice.” ~ Evangelii Gaudium, no. 183
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY – CARNEGIE CONFERENCE In today’s Gospel we find that God is a God of the living, and this is indeed the core of our hope. Jesus has risen and is with us, therefore, at no time should we be without hope for the future. When you give the furniture, household items and clothing you no longer use to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, you give hope to your neighbors who have nothing. Thank you to everyone who donated to
the St. Vincent de Paul “Bundle Drive”
and the “5th Sunday” Collection.
