A Person Who Has Made a Difference: My Grandfather

My grandfather helped his community in numerous ways. After years of medical

school and career, he was elected Manta’s Mayor twice in a row. By that time he

already was a very respected person in the community, so he won easily. The first thing

he did after becoming Mayor was improving the city’s main hospital. Even before being

elected he was seen as a very distinguished doctor, so he already had an idea about what

the hospital and the citizens needed in terms of medical assistance. He began by adding

new wings to the main hospital, completely rebuilding and equipping it with the latest

medical machinery and instruments, in order to reach faster diagnosis. When he was re-

elected, his next step was modernizing the city. As a Mayor he improved the piping

system so that water could be delivered faster to every area of the city. It’s incredible

how a man’s small actions can nowadays still have a favourable repercussion in the

community.
