A place to bury strangers

The search into the purest side of the interior of human beings, and into itsconnection with the universe, both so close and so far, generates true happiness.

Using this starting point, the Catalan choreographer Roberto Olivan, who divides his work between Brussels and Catalonia, has conceived a show that combines theorganic forms with strength and energy, always proposing fresh emotionalregisters, and where contemporary dance is expressed through different stagelanguages.

Tortosa (Tarragona), 1972

Spanish by origin Roberto studied at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and P.A.R.T.S. in Belgium. Roberto danced with ROSAS which toured all over the worldbefore becoming the resident choreographer for the theater HET NET in Bruggewhere he created his first full length choreography, the award winning Natural Strange Days.

What Roberto searches for in dance is a new form of emotional beauty, which forhim is a way of posing the principal that art should not stagnete. New discoveries

Instead of art or new artistic methodologies should only come from established traditions, he hopes to discover new hidden possibilities. He claims that there are on ideals in dance and that dance is not simple. But dance can be simple and that can furthermore be even more complicated. What is importantis the clarity. Clear question have a power to them.

Roberto's work has been extremely varied, creating choreographies for Dance Companies as well as choirs, advising actors, cinema and dance-circus. He has alsobeen prolific within his own company, the ENCLAVE dance company, producingthe much acclaimed Homeland, De Farra and Mermaid’s Call.

Roberto has worked with among others, Robert Wilson, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Josse de Pauw and Tom Jansen and created pieces for the KoreanNational University of Arts in Seoul, the Ensemble Walpurgis, Vertigo Dance Company in Israel, Iceland Dance Company, Centro Coreografico Galego, E.S.A.C. (Ecole Superiore des Arts du Cirque, Belgium) among many others.

In addition, Roberto is the Artistic Director of the INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY DANCE WORKSHOP “DELTEBRE DANSA” (SPAIN) since2004. This workshop takes place every July since that year and brings participantsfrom all over the world.
