Dreieich lies at the edge of the Odenwald foothills in
the southern Rhine-Main area. This town of over 40,000
inhabitants has many faces, from the modern, lively
district of Sprendlingen, through the more rural districts
of Götzenhain and Offenthal and the magnificent
villa settlement of Buchschlag, right up to medieval
Dreieichenhain, one of the last historical oases in a
flourishing conurbation.
Dreieich is a town with tradition; its historical roots burrow
right back to the 6th century. In the Middle Ages, the
Emperor's word was law here, for the hunting ground
of Dreieich at that time was an imperial preserve. Hunting
and other pleasures were reserved exclusively for the
Emperor and his retinue.
Nowadays, fortunately, one no longer needs a title to
enjoy the wide variety of cultural, sporting and leisure
opportunities. If you want to keep fit, you'll find facilities
for more than thirty kinds of sports, from a swimming
pool to the region's largest golf course. If you prefer a
quieter life, why not return to horsepower and investigate
the countryside from a covered wagon.
Improve your handicap on the
largest golf course in the Frankfurt
area. With its 27-hole champion-
ship course, six-hole short course,
clubhouse with listed building
status, extensive sun terrace and
top class restaurant, the Neuhof
Golf Club has everything the
golfer’s heart could possibly desire.
Alongside its cultural highlights, Dreieich likes to show its sporting
side. There are suitable facilities available for more than thirty
different types of sports.

Looking for good entertainment in pleasant company?
The highlights of Dreieich's festival calendar are without
doubt “Jazz in the Castle”, Germany's oldest open-air
festival for jazz fans, and the Dreieichenhain Castle
Festival Games, which date back to the Golden Twenties.
Both events are lent their special charm by the open-air
stage, which was erected for the 1925 Festival Games
with the castle tower as its backdrop.
In winter, it's Dreieich’s Christmas Markets which
attract visitors from the whole surrounding area. The
Dreieichenhain district is especially renowned for
having the region’s most traditional festival: the
“Haaner Kerb.” Here it isn't only the “Hayner Reitschul”,
a magnificent Art Nouveau carousel, which ensures
things go with the necessary swing.
If you still find yourself with time on your hands after
taking in the theatre productions, readings and street
festivals, Dreieich offers a wide selection of shops to
browse and shop in. Bargain hunters will land a good catch
in the factory outlets of trendy and exclusive designer
labels. Some may even come across that perfect outfit for
an evening event.
Summer after summer, the Dreieichenhain Castle Festival Games
cast a spell on their enthusiastic audience. Germany's best-preserved
castle tower provides an unbeatable backdrop for Hesse's oldest
open-air stage.
No matter who you enjoy your
evening with, you'll find the right
ambience in Dreieich.
The atmospheric fireworks of
the “Dreieichenhainer Kerb”
Festival enchant visitors from
far and near every year.
The forest and villa settlement in the district of Buchschlag was
established at the start of the 20th century as part of the German
Garden City Movement. You even arrive in style from the moment
you step off the train at Buchschlag Station: The platform roofing
dating from 1858 is one of the oldest in railway history.

Do you like towns with tradition and history?
Dreieich can lay immediate claim to two places fully
classified as historical monuments: the villa settlement at
Buchschlag and the old town centre of Dreieichenhain.
The 11th century “Burg Hayn”, one of the region’s
landmarks, is the oldest preserved stone castle in
Germany with the best-preserved Salian tower castle in
Central Europe. Its foundations date back to the 10th
century when a hunting lodge was built by the Saxon
emperors to administer the imperial preserve. Much can
still be admired of the old royal seat of “Hayn in der
Dreieich”, as Dreieichenhain was known until 1840. The
“Wilder Mann”, the “Saalhof”, the “Amtskellerei”, the
“Trierischer Hof” and Ludwig Erk Collection, which can
be viewed in the Dreieich Museum, are just a few high-
lights.
But a journey through time in Dreieich does not only go
back to the Middle Ages. Between 1905 and 1915, on the
initiative of Frankfurt businessman Jacob Latscha, well-
known architects erected a unique estate of villas in the
district which is now called Buchschlag.
Dreieich forms part of the German Half-timbered House Trail. The
magnificent centrepiece alone, the old town centre of Dreieichenhain
(above: Trierischer Hof) with its medieval castle ruins (below right), is
worth a visit. But other districts too, for example Offenthal (below
left), have retained impressive half-timbered buildings.
The “Obertor” (“Upper Gate”) was erected along with the Gothic
town wall around 1350. It was originally a fortified tower that opened
inward, into which the charming half-timbering which can still be
admired today was later incorporated. The German Half-timbered HouseTrail

A look from the "pyramid of posts” across the fields of Dreieich to the
futuristic Frankfurt skyline shows how close city and countryside come
to each other in Dreieich. This is one of the major reasons why the
town is one of the most desirable places to live in the Rhine-Main area.
You can get a taste of nature in
the district of Götzenhain, which
developed in the 12th century as
an ancillary village for Burg Hayn.

Do you appreciate seeing town meet country?
While Dreieich is situated at the heart of the Rhine-Main
economic region, it is also in the middle of the countryside.
Woods, meadows and fields invite you to take a break
from the hectic pace of daily working life. While once
hunting mainly drew people to the green hinterland,
nowadays you should arm yourself with a camera to
capture unique photographic subjects in Dreieich.
Hikers and cyclists can discover the sights of Dreieich’s
districts along the Hessian Cider and Orchard Trail. The
Erasmus Alberus Church in Sprendlingen stands in memory
of the Protestant theologian who was church minister
there from 1528 and a keen supporter of Luther. Passing
by magnificent meadow orchards, you arrive directly at
the historical centre of Dreieichenhain and at Burg Hayn.
Between Götzenhain and Offenthal you will find the
stately home of Schloss Philippseich, which was built from
the 17th century by the Counts of Isenburg. In Offenthal
itself you can visit the Gothic fortified church which was
endowed by Anna von Falkenstein.
Refreshment companies provide traditional delicacies to
keep the traveller's strength up en route.
THE HESSIAN CIDER AND ORCHARD TRAIL
If you get on your hiking shoes or bike to follow the Cider and
Orchard Trail, you will pass meadows and paddocks (above), the
fortifications of Dreieichenhain's town walls (below left) and the
Erasmus Alberus Church in Sprendlingen, Dreieich’s oldest district
(founded by Alemannics around 500).
You can enjoy the magnificent surroundings as you wind down
after work, or even between two business appointments. Not far from
monuments like the Baroque Schloss Philippseich in Götzenhain (above)
and the Gothic fortified church in Offenthal (below right), you will see
firm fruit ripening for the production of the local cider.

every season casts its own particular magic over Dreieich.
Clubs and citizens maintain customs and traditions.

Dreieich
Dreieich is perfectly linked to regional and national trans-
port networks and is easy to reach from any direction.
The cities and large towns of Frankfurt, Darmstadt and
Offenbach are each only 10 to 15 kilometres away. That
makes Dreieich the ideal starting point for investigating
the Rhine-Main region: Daytrips take visitors up into the
Taunus, the Odenwald, the Spessart and of course to the
World Heritage Sites of the Middle Rhine Valley, Lorsch
Friary, Speyer Cathedral, the royal seat of Würzburg,
Limes and the Grube Messel fossil site.
