Life Overflowing“An Empowered Calling”
Jeremiah 1:4-10David Hull
First Thoughts
9:40-10:40 AM Bible Study All Ages
One way to study the Bible is to pay attention to the different ways that a particular verse or section is translated. We are fortunate to have many different versions of the Bible today, so we benefit from the rich variety of translation. Think about the well-known phrase in John 10:10: “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (NRSV) When we listen to that verse in other translations we can hear different perspectives of meaning:
• “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (NIV) • “I came so that they could have life—indeed, so that they could live life to the fullest.” (CEB) • “I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.” (The Message)
The translations are different but the meaning is the same. Jesus invites us to a life overflowing – filled full with abundance that is greater than our wildest dreams.
So, what does this life “to the full” really look like? How do we live with abundance a life that is more than we ever dreamed of? We will talk about that kind of “Life Overflowing” in worship during September.
“Life Overflowing”Life Overflowing is . . .
September 4 “An Empowered Calling” Jeremiah 1:4-10God calls us to this Life Overflowing and then strengthens us to live into this calling.
September 11 “A Confident Trust” 2 Corinthians 5:6-10Once we have answered this calling, we follow Christ with a trust that leads to confidence.
September 18 “A Song in the Night” Psalm 42Life Overflowing does not mean that our problems all go away. It does mean that God has special gifts for us in the darkness of our lives.
September 25 “A Gentle Witness” 1 Peter 3:15Life in Christ overflows as we share our faith with others.
