Brrrrr it sure has been cold out. Another year has come and

gone. 2013 sure has been an eventful year. Looking forward to a prosperous 2014.

I would like to give a big Thank You to Bill Lust for his

I would like to tell everyone a little bit about myself. I am married to Shane Wade and we have two amazing sons Manuel and Spencer. We moved to Jefferson in 2007 and

Rainbow Hospice Care offers On

Grief and Grieving, a three-part

educational DVD series for

professional caregivers

Johnson Creek WI— Rainbow Hospice Care is pleased to present On Grief and Grieving, an innovative and inspiring educational program that looks at the way we experience the process of grief. Created by David Kessler, a renowned end-of-life expert, author, speaker and close collaborator with the legendary Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, the program is especially beneficial to clinical caregivers and administrators, counselors, social workers, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, spiritual leaders, and volunteers. Attendees will learn healthy and supportive ways to respond to grief and to help loved ones learn to live with loss instead of "getting over" loss. Some of the many topics addressed in the program include: how the stages of grief influence healing after loss; the milestones that often occur after a loss, including anticipatory grief; appropriate responses to grief and mourning within the care team; why children are often the forgotten grievers and how to help them; and the impact of natural disasters vs. man-made disasters. The series further offers dozens of tools and interventions to be used by clinicians, hospitals, palliative

care services and hospices when working with grief and loss. On Grief and Grieving will be presented from 1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on three consecutive Friday afternoons, January 17, 24, and 31, at the Rainbow Hospice Care Inpatient Center, 1225 Remmel Drive, in Johnson Creek. Each session will include two-hour DVD presentation, followed by a 30 minute discussion period. Pre-registration is required and the cost to attend is $5 per person/per session, which includes refreshments. A Certificate of Attendance will also be provided to each participant. David Kessler is one of the most well-known experts and lecturers on grief and loss today, reaching hundreds of thousands of people through his books. His first book, The Needs of the Dying, received praise by Mother Teresa and has been the #1 bestselling hospice book. David also co-authored two books with Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, On Grief and Grieving: Finding the Meaning of Grief through the Five Stages and Life Lessons: Two Experts on Death and Dying Teach Us about the Mysteries of Life and Living. “David is one of my favorite speakers on bereavement,” says Rainbow Hospice Care’s bereavement counselor, Angie Shubkegel. “He is genuine and a wonderful storyteller. The program is full of examples and stories that engage and inform the listener. He interacts with the audience and provides tools and interventions for professionals to help families cope with grief.” David has helped thousands of men, women, and children face life and death with peace, dignity and courage. His work has been

discussed in the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Business Week and Life Magazine, and has been featured on “CNN-Cross Fire”, NBC, MSNBC, PBS, and “Entertainment Tonight”. David is a contributing writer on Oprah.com, Dr. Oz’s Sharecare.com and, “Anderson Cooper 360”. As a real life character counterpart, he did press for the Clint Eastwood/Matt Damon film, “Hereafter”. David’s work has a strong Internet and social media presence. His web site www.Grief.com is visited for help and inspiration by reaching hundreds of thousands of people in more than 167 countries. He is now working on new book with the much loved author Louise Hay about the grief that follows after death, but also around grief after a relationship or marriage ends. As a modern day thanatologist, David has a master’s degree in Health Care Bioethics from Loyola Marymount University, did his undergraduate work at University of Southern California, and is a member of the American College of Health Care. He is a certified AMA/EPEC trainer and the founding chairperson for the Hospital Association of Southern California Palliative Care Committee. He spent the last decade as a C-suite executive in a 650-bed, three-hospital system in Los Angeles County. To register, and to learn more about On Grief and Grieving, please call Angie Schubkegel, Rainbow Hospice Care’s bereavement counselor at: (920) 674-6255 or [email protected].

Jefferson County

Cancer Coalition donates

to Mammogram Voucher

program

FORT ATKINSON –

Recently, members of the

Jefferson County Cancer

coalition presented a

donation in the amount of

$2,000 to Fort HealthCare.

The funds were designated

for the Fort HealthCare

Mammogram Voucher

program, a service that offers

free or reduced cost

mammograms to women who

may not be able to afford

them.

The Jefferson County

Cancer Coalition is a non-

profit organization that

provides financial assistance

to cancer victims and their

families residing in Jefferson

County. The organization

was founded by volunteers in

an effort to raise funds that

assist individuals and families

through the difficult times

caused by a cancer

diagnosis. A variety of

fundraising activities occur

each year, including the All-

Witches Ball, a Tough

Mudder obstacle course

event and the annual Frosty

Pink Balls Golf Outing.

The organization’s board of

directors reviews applications

for aid, providing assistance

such as gas cards to help the

patient get to treatments and

doctor visits, assistance in

paying for costly

prescriptions, or covering

rent, utilities and grocery

costs for families burdened

with unforeseen expenses.

Benefits are distributed via a

voucher. There are no cash

payouts. Funds are available

to anyone residing in

Jefferson County

currently diagnosed with

cancer and seeking medical

care. Verification of residence

in Jefferson County

is required.

Fort Memorial Hospital is a Pink Ribbon facility, recognized for providing excellence in breast health paired with exceptional commitment and support to the women of our community. If detected early, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer exceeds 96 percent. Mammograms are among the best early detection methods, yet 13 million U.S. women 40 years of age or older have never had a mammogram.

The National Cancer Institute

and U.S. Department of

Health and Human Services

recommend that women in

their forties and older have

mammograms every one to

two years. A complete early

detection plan also includes

regular clinical breast

examinations by a trained

medical professional. In

addition, monthly breast self-

exams are strongly

suggested.

For more information on the

Fort Memorial Hospital

Foundation mammogram

vouchers, please contact

Sandee Schunk, Jefferson

County Health Department at

(920) 674-7193.
