Third Sunday of Advent REJOICE! Today has traditionally been called “Gaudete Sunday.” The Latin tag is derived from Paul’s appeal in the second reading to “rejoice always in the Lord,” and the Latin Mass text based on that reading. The irony and paradox of this Christian joy is underlined by the fact that Paul wrote those words in prison. But from there he could see the progress of God’s work. Is it obvious to us? We feel that this is not the time for joy when there is so much suffering and moral evil. It is interesting, then, that the first reading is from the prophet Zephaniah, who is almost exclusively concerned with gloomy visions of Judgment Day. Today the Church selects the only optimistic text in Zephaniah, in which the prophet has been touched by the spirit of joy. This, we are assured on all sides, is “the season of joy.” Let us recapture that feeling of joy in our lives and reflect it to those who are joyless. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

St. Dominic Savio He is the patron saint of our Parish. He is a saint at nearly 15 years of age. He was educated by St. John Bosco (a.k.a. Don Bosco) at the Oratory of St. Francis
de Sales. For St. Dominic Savio, holiness consists of always being cheerful and of doing one’s ordinary duties, extraordinarily well. His Feast Day is on May 6.

Tercer Domingo de Adviento ¡REGOCÍJATE! El día de hoy se le ha llamado tradicionalmente “Domingo Gaudete” o de la “Alegría”. El nombre latino se deriva de la petición de Pedro en la segunda lectura de “alégrense siempre en el Señor”, y del texto de la Misa en latín en el que está basada esta lectura. La ironía y paradoja de esta alegría cristiana se manifiesta en el hecho que Pablo escribió esas palabras en la prisión. Pero desde allí podía ver el progreso de la obra de Dios. ¿Nos parece obvio a nosotros? Sentimos que este no es un tiempo para la alegría cuando hay tanto sufrimiento e inmoralidad. Es interesante, entonces, que la primera lectura sea del profeta Sofonías, que está casi exclusivamente preocupado con sombrías visiones del Día del Juicio. Hoy la Iglesia selecciona la única parte optimista de Sofonías, donde el profeta es tocado por el espíritu del gozo. Esta es, se nos asegura en todas partes, “la temporada de la alegría”. Thank you very much! "God has two dwellings -- one in Heaven and the other in a thankful heart." On behalf of the church, I want to thank you all for your participation and donation toward the Called to Renew Capital Campaign. We have successfully reached our goal of $1,130,000. And not only reached but exceeded our goal with $1,172,322 or 103% of our goal on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, December 12th. It is a miracle! However, this collected amount from our pledges are promises that still need to be completed in the next four to five years. Therefore, we need to continue to pray that the good Lord, who has been blessing us with the success of the campaign, will continue to encourage you all to fulfill your pledge. As I have entrusted this campaign to our mother Mary, Help of Christians, since May 24th, 2018, I am encouraging you all to do likewise. And I am confident that with God's help all these pledges will be collected in full. I would like to end my message with a quotation from Saint John Bosco, since this is a Salesian Parish: "Trust all things to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and to Mary, Help of Christians, and you will see what MIRACLES are."

“Tenemos dos hogares… uno en el Cielo y el otro en un corazón agradecido”. A nombre de la iglesia, quiero agradecer a cada uno por la participación y la donación que hicieron a la campaña “Llamados a renovar”. Afortunadamente, hemos logrado el objetivo de reunir $1,130,000. No sólo lo logramos sino que lo sobrepasamos con $1,172,322. En la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, el 12 de diciembre, alcanzamos el 103% de nuestra meta. Sin embargo, la cantidad reunida en los compromisos son todavía promesas que se irán concretando en los próximos cuatro o cinco años. Por tanto, necesitamos continuar orando a nuestro Señor. Es Él quien nos ha bendecido con el éxito de nuestra campaña y, seguramente, será Él mismo quien continúe animándonos a terminar nuestra promesa. A partir del 24 de Mayo del 2018, confié la campaña a nuestra madre María, Auxilio de los Cristianos. Los animo a que ustedes hagan lo mismo. Tengo la confianza que con la ayuda de Dios todas las promesas se cumplirán. Ya que la nuestra es una parroquia salesiana, termino mi mensaje con una cita de san Juan Bosco: “Confía todo al Jesús en el Santísimo Sacramento y a María, Auxilio de los Cristianos, y verás lo que son los MILAGROS”.

PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN Did you know? At Christmastime, families come together to spend this blessed season surrounded by their loved ones, and for many families, this involves some travel. Parents with young children who are hitting the roads or the airways should be practicing situational awareness to ensure their children’s safety. Situational awareness means staying alert and knowing what’s going on around you. Keep an eye out for suspicious activity, and know where your family members are at all times. Don’t allow yourself to become distracted by your phone or other electronics—it only takes a minute for a child to disappear from your eyesight.
