Second Sunday of Advent

When John proclaimed a baptism of repentance, as today s Gospel relates, he called people to a deep change of heart. For John the Baptist, repentance was not simply regret for past failings, but a commitment to orient life around God s desires and purposes. What might living in alignment with

God s desires look like? Our readings offer some clues. Baruch indicates that when mercy and justice are

embraced like a royal garment, we may see the fruits of repentance. Paul notes how the Holy Spirit has been active

within the church in Philippi, forming them to live in a loving and united community of faith, so they may witness

to the love of God. And John himself suggests that a repentant heart clears a path for God to enter, leveling the

mountains and valleys of our resistance, so that God might dwell within.

Second Sunday of Advent December 9, 2018

JMJ December 9, 2018

My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. Have you kept dreaming about our Parish Family and praying about it? I am sharing with you a picture of the Altar in my room where I kept the book and hold it while I pray – the Memorare (a beautiful and meaningful prayer to Mother Mary) is usually how I begin my prayer moment. There is a proverb that says: “A journey to a thousand miles begins with a single step.” We all have taken a big step into the calling and challenge we have been blessed with last Sunday. The First Sunday of Advent was the appropriate time to take this journey together. While it may be arduous we should all persevere and simply be faithful. Let us start by participating in the task ahead for this weekend that is a survey of our Parish Family. Honestly and intentionally responding to the questions can provide us with a realistic idea where we stand as we move forward with our dreams. It will also give us an assessment of the gifts and talents we can harness to make sure we progress towards continuing our dynamism as a Parish Family. Our Blessed Mother’s Feast of the Immaculate Conception is a meaningful reminder of how our Loving Father prepares us for our call to truly be his disciple and witnesses. She was blessed with being conceived without sin as someone who would be the worthy living tabernacle for the Incarnate Word, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ – “the Emmanuel: God with us.” This Feast should be an assurance for us that God will bestow upon us the grace and strength we need to make our dreams a reality. This should give us the confidence to work together and for each of us to do our part. Let us participate in the “Best Advent Ever.” I recall providing in my previous letter the link to this initiative of Dynamic Catholic. It is better late than never, you know. During this time, we have numerous opportunities to take part in practicing charity during Advent and Christmas. We have already begun our Operation Shoebox for the homeless. We are having a 2nd

Collection for the Retired Religious Nuns and Priests combined with helping the victims of the northern fires this weekend. The coming weekend is packed with wonderful celebrations: the Feast of Our Lady or Guadalupe – the Patroness of the Americas and our Diocese on December 12. The Noel Night our time to celebrate in Music, Song and fellowship will be this coming Friday – the 14th. Sunday will commence the early morning Simbang Gabi the Advent Novena Masses in preparation for Christmas. Let us thank God for these events that has been already a part of the fabric of our Parish Family and Life for the past years. We continue to also our intentional remembrance of our 40th Anniversary as a Parish next year. These may seem a lot but with God though difficult: IT IS POSSIBLE! God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr.

Dios bendiga y cuide. Amor y oraciones,

Padre Thomas Paul K. Naval

WHAT IS DYNAMIC CATHOLIC?

Dynamic Catholic has been inspiring Catholics to rediscover the genius of Catholicism through the

development of world-class resources and life-changing events for a decade. They will spend the next decade helping parish communities like ours grow and thrive

through an initiative called Dynamic Parish. They invited us to pilot this program in our parish for five years at no cost to us. There are over 15,000 parishes in America.

Our is one of just twenty that were selected. During the five years, Dynamic Catholic will invest more than a

million dollars in our community through engaging and energizing events, programs, and resources. Parish

consultants will walk alongside our pastor and parish leaders, share best practices and support us at every turn.

DYNAMIC CATHOLIC SURVEY

During all Masses on December 8th and 9th, we will ask all adult parishioners to take Dynamic Catholic’s Bigger Future Survey. This is part of our parish’s five-year

partnership with Dynamic Catholic to help our parish grow in powerful ways. Children who are 10 or older are

also invited to complete the survey. If you’d prefer to take the survey on your phone, please text bold14 to 51555 or visit https://dynamiccatholic.com/bold14

and complete the electronic version. This electronic/text survey is available through December 31 for those traveling or unable to attend Mass here this

weekend.

Dynamic Catholic Futuro Mas Grande.
