A Service of Worship including the

Sacrament of Communion

For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,

and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said,

“This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying,

“This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

Affirming Our Faith

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried.

He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven,

and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead:

I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn of Communion “Jesus at Your Holy Table” BEACH SPRING

Jesus, at Your Holy Table Tom Allen

Jesus, at Your holy table, may our hearts united be. Bind us with Your grace and presence that redeem and set us free.

Crucify our pride and hatred, light the path on which we walk. Teach us how to love each other, in the way that You have taught.

Christ, remind us of Your passion, of Your precious life out-poured, Of the love which none can fathom, and our victory evermore.

Bread of heaven, wine of promise, feed us with Your holy word. Nourish us with Your strong presence, risen Savior, only Lord.

Lift your hearts and raise your voices, celebrate this wondrous love. Join the chorus with all Christians, and with saints who live above.

Silent lips now sing with gladness, blinded eyes are filled with sight. Jesus’ love has pierced our darkness, brought us home to peace and light.

MINISTRY KICK-OFF UPDATE – As we kick off our new season of ministries and events, it would be extremely helpful for our ministry leaders to know which potential areas of service interest you. This does not automatically sign you up to serve anywhere! It just opens the door for a ministry leader to contact you and discuss ways you may be called to serve FPC and our surrounding community this year! Perhaps your season of life does not allow a weekly commitment, but you would be willing to be contacted to assist at community or seasonal events. If you have not yet completed the online survey (SERVE PROFILE) or Intentional Conversations, we ask that you please do so. It is accessible from all mobile

devices and will take about 7 minutes to complete. Scan the QR code (via camera or scanner app) or visit fpcrome.org/serve and click on the SERVE PROFILE button. If you prefer a paper copy, you may find one in the information racks.

Regardless of whether or not you participated previously, you will still be edified and encouraged by this study as each lesson stands on its own. The small group will include aspects of teaching, interaction, and prayer. Handouts and notes will be distributed ahead of each lesson. The day/time of the group will depend on the schedules of those men who express interest. If you are interested in signing up, or getting more information about it, please contact Rev. Pardue at [email protected] by September 5th.

FALL PREVIEW SUNDAY NEXT SUNDAY AT 9:15 AM IN KING HALL – All adults are urged to join us at 9:15 am to hear all about our Adult Sunday Morning Communities which begin Sunday, September 8. PRAY for ME CAMPAIGN – “Rallying the Church around the Next Generation” - 40-50% of Students from good youth groups and families will drift from the Church after High School. In fact, research shows that adult believers are crucial in passing on faith to the next generation. And whom better to invoke to work in the hearts of our students than the one and true, living God. PfMC is a movement designed to naturally create multi-generational relationships through prayer. Three adult believers from three different generations pray for one student (7th to 12th grade) for one year. If you would like to join this movement, please visit the church website to register, or the tables at the Welcome Center in the Education Building and outside of King Hall in the Christian Life Center to attend the launch event on September 15 after church (meal will be provided). Prayer guides will be available for purchase at the event for $10. If you have any questions please contact Jonathan Schwartz at [email protected].

BETHEL DISCIPLESHIP FALL CLASS CONTINUES - “By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth…For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.” (Ps 33:6,9 NIV) The word of God is powerful…the Word of God reveals God to us. The words of God reveal who we are. And the Word of God reveals to us the beauty and glory of His majesty, mercy and grace. As we study the word of God we deepen our relationship with Him. There is a wonderful opportunity coming this fall to do just that! Bethel Discipleship is a Bible study class taught in a small group, interactive setting. The entire Biblical narrative is covered over 4 semesters. You do not, however, have to sign up for the entire 4 semesters up front! This fall we will begin with Old Testament part I, Genesis through Joshua. Our journey continues through November 20. We meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 am till 12:00 pm. (There is a nominal fee of $25 to cover the cost of materials.) You may register through the FPC website, by calling the church office, or by emailing Phyllis Pemerton at [email protected].
