MARINE SERVICES

Nigerdock’s Shipyard Division is the largest facility of its kind in West Africa with an out-standing history in the marine industry. It is specialised in the fields of ship building, ship repair, maintenance and refurbishment. It has a 25,000DWT graving dry dock, a 3,500DWT floating dock, quayside facilities and weather proof multipurpose workshops.

Nigerdock has impressive plans to develop and ex-pand its Shipyard Division with the objective to im-prove its specialist and engineering capacity and carry out more complex operations including rig refurbishment and the ability to build larger vessels. Skillbase is a cost-efficient logistics hub at the heart of a service centre for the oil&gas industry and forms an integral part of the Snake Island Deepwater Integrated Support Centre (DISC) Concept. TRAINING

The Training School offers world class train-ing of personnel in the fields of Welding, Pipefitting, Plating and Machining. The Train-ing School has been selected as a centre in Nigeria for the training and certification of welders to International Standards. This pro-gramme is being coordinated by the Nigeri-an National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and actively supported by stakeholders in the Industry. It is part of the Federal Govern-ment’s Nigerian Content Development Policy for the Oil and Gas Industry.

The Training School has fully equipped class-rooms which can be utilised for most train-ing requirements including Rigging, Safety, Quality and First Aid. It has the ability to train and test Welders in SMAW, MMAW, FCAW and TIG processes, in all positions and to any

Client’s requirements whilst certifying to Lloyds, ABS and DNV standards. All trainees must attend a thorough induction program including basic safety and quality training.

Pipefitters and platers are trained in prac-tical and theoretical fabrication techniques including manual and machine burning and cutting, layouts and fit-ups, auto-levelling, measuring, preparation methods and tack-ing.

Machinists are trained in manual and semi-automatic processes including detailed marking out, turning and screw threading on lathes, metal joining through processes, ma-chining of intricate components, sinking dies, cutting of Gears and machining of bushings and eccentric turning.

In July 2008, Mobil (MPN) in joint venture with the Nigeria National Petroleum Compa-ny (NNPC) awarded the procurement and fabrication of Abang and Itut well platforms as part of the Satellite Field Development Project Phase 1 in OMLs 67 and 70.

The project is the first of its kind to be execut-ed in Nigeria where two complete platforms (from mud-mat to helideck) are fabricated si-multaneously in-country. The Scope of Work comprised of jackets/appurtenances, piles, subsea templates, topsides/associated skids and E&I systems fabrication.

TRANSOCEAN ADRIATIC VIII REFURBISHMENT

In December 2009, Transocean and Niger-dock along with the Nigerian Ports Authori-ty (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Nigeri-an Content Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) collaborat-ed to take on a project that was yet another first of its kind in Nigeria, the refurbishment and maintenance of the gigantic jack-up rig - the Adriatic VIII.

The 3-leg 70m x 70m rig weighs 16,000 tons with each leg measuring 140 meters in height. The scope of work included steel re-pair and general maintenance. The rig was the first of its kind to be berthed alongside any facility within Nigeria.

USAN FPSO TOPSIDESIn June 2008, Nigerdock was awarded the fabrication of 7,500 tons of structural steel components to be integrated onto the Total Usan FPSO vessel. The award package in-cluded the laydown module area comprising modules P1 and S1, module P4, 15 sets of pressure vessels, the fabrication of the he-lideck and its support, the flare tower, the riser protector structures, the boat land-ings, the mooring protection structures and the water caissons.

A total of 30,000 man hours of training was expended in the training of welders and fit-ters in a special training program conducted between October 2008 and March 2009. Also, an additional five trainee engineers were assigned by the NNPC’s Nigerian Con-tent Division to Nigerdock for a special on-the-job capacity building program.

CHEVRON MEJI PLATFORM

The Chevron Escravos Gas Project Phase 3A (EGP3A) was awarded to Nigerdock in August 2005, for the fabrication of the Meji and Okan Platforms. The award package included the fab-rication of the Meji GGCP jacket & piles, Meji GGCP flare bridge and support tripod, Meji GGCP to Meji RP utility bridge, Okan NWP jacket and piles.

The overall scope for the project included the expansion of existing facilities, construction of an onshore gas treatment plant, modification of the floating, storage and offloading (FSO) unit and the fabrication of the two offshore platforms.

Nigerdock’s scope included the fabrication, shop engineering, installation of piping, electrical instrumentation, painting, mechanical completion, load out and sea fastening.

SHELL BONGA DEEPWATER BUOY

The Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO) Bonga field was the first deepwater project of its kind in Nigeria.

The Bonga Deepwater Buoy was awarded to Nigerdock by in April 2003. The contract was to complete the fabrication of a deep-water single point mooring (SPM) buoy to facilitate crude oil transfer from a floating, production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) to export tankers in deepwater depth of over 1000m.

In June, 2004 a major feat in the history of oil and gas deepwater development in Ni-geria was recorded on the successful com-pletion and launching of the first deepwater SPM buoy built in-country.

SHELL BONGA FPSO INTEGRATION

The Shell Bonga FPSO (Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading vessel) was commis-sioned in 2005 and is one of the largest in the world with a hull length of 305m and has 22,000 tons of topsides.

Nigerdock and Snake Island Integrated Free Zone are strategic partners to Snepco (Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Compa-ny) who coordinated the entire operations, logistics and support services for the Bonga project from Nigerdock’s support base in Lagos. Snepco had heliport operations that included 2 Super Puma Helicopters, crew boats, support vessels, a 2,000sqm state-of-the-art office, housing and hostel facilities,

restaurant and catering services.Snepco also awarded Nigerdock the topside structural steel and pipe works for final inte-gration onto the Bonga FPSO. The package also included manpower services for onsite fabrication, construction and shop engineer-ing, procurement of materials, blasting/paint-ing, hydro testing of pipe spools, upgrading the living accommodation and load out.

CHEVRON AGBAMI FPSO TOPSIDES

Nigerdock was awarded the fabrication of topside module 3S and STB laydown module 1S for the Chevron (Star Deep Water Pe-troleum) Agbami FPSO. The scope of work comprised the fabrication engineering, pro-curement, fabrication of girder beams, con-struction, pipe works, painting, loadout and seafastening of the two topside modules.

Nigerdock completed 230,000 man-hours and delivered the topside packages, totaling 1,150 tons, all fabricated in its yard in La-gos, Nigeria. The completed modules were shipped to Korea for final integration onto the FPSO. COMPLETED TOPSIDES MODULES BEING

CHEVRON AGBAMI DEEPWATER BUOY

The Chevron (Star Deep Water Petroleum) Agbami Buoy was awarded to Nigerdock in 2006. The award package included the fabrication, engineering, materials procurement, testing, inspection, pre-mechanical completion, electrical instrumentation and load out of the buoy.

The buoy is approximately 23m in diameter and 10m in height. It has 12 compartments, 9 chain stoppers and a turntable with attached platforms and high tech E&I equipment. The total weight of the buoy is 1,287 tonnes.

From a safety perspective Nigerdock achieved a distinct accomplishment as the only Nigeri-an fabrication yard on the Agbami project without a lost time incident.

MOBIL ERHA DEEPWATER BUOY

ExxonMobil’s Erha Deepwater Buoy is a catenary anchor leg mooring buoy and was awarded to Nigerdock in March 2004. The award package included fabrication, inte-gration of the turn table platform, blasting/painting, full testing, pre-mechanical comple-tion, load out and sea fastening. In addition, Nigerdock also provided all the required fab-rication engineering.

Additional investment in capacity building via training and certification programs were implemented (scaffolding, Rigging, Machin-ing, Welding and Painting) to boost Nigeri-an Content Expectations and to support the project in terms of Safety, Quality, Schedule and Cost.

The Total Upstream Akpo Deepwater Buoy was awarded to Nigerdock in 2006. The award package included the fabrication engineering, materials procurement, complete fabrication including testing, inspection, pre-mechanical completion, electrical, instrumentation and blasting/painting.

The buoy comprises a flat cylindrical buoy body with a 19m outer diameter and is 10m in height with12 compartments and 9 chain stoppers. The total weight of the buoy is 1,149 tons.

A heavy-duty Main Roller Bearing (MRB) assembly supports the turntable, associated plat-forms and ancillary equipment and incorporates state-of-the-art electrical and instrumenta-tion equipment.
