Dear Parents/Caregivers

Scotts Head Public School (SHPS) is involved with and

invested in the development of International Relations

between Australia and Indonesia. As the one and only

Bilingual Indonesian School in New South Wales, part of our

mission statement is to further people to people relations

and intercultural understanding.

By participating in a day like we had on Friday we:

build meaningful relationships with future educators

from Indonesia

internationalise education in our school

support Indonesian language teaching, learning

and develop intercultural understanding

connect our school to a broader network in the

region.

Representatives from the Indonesian Embassy, all the way

from Canberra and representatives from the State language

team were in attendance at the school during the afternoon.

Performances provided by our amazing students from SHPS

were well polished with perfect singing and dancing.

Congratulations to the students that performed during the

day:

Kelas 3/4/5 Abang Tukang Bakso

Kelas 3/4/5 Randai Performance

Kelas 3-6 Tarian Aceh

Kelas 3/4/5 Laskar Pelangi

Kelas 1/2 Angklung & Tanah Airku

On the night, “Asyik – Indonesia Night” (pronounced ah-

sheek), was a celebration of Indonesian culture happening

exclusively in Scotts Head. High quality entertainment acts

were flown in direct from Brisbane and Melbourne and

provided us with the opportunity to witness engaging

performances often only found in large International

festivals. On the night, delicious Indonesian food was

available for your enjoyment.

The following people were in attendance: the Mayor Rhonda

Hoban, Deputy Mayor John Wilson, Erica Lyne Principal

Macksville HS and the Attaché from the Indonesian

Embassy, Pak Imran Hanafi and Vice Attaché Ibu Merlita.

Thanks to Pak Mur, Bu Bibi, Pak Chris and Pak Karl who

worked tirelessly to get us all ready for the night. Thanks to

all the staff that came along and helped out. Thanks to all

the families and community that came on Friday night and

especially to all the students who performed. It certainly was

a night we will all remember.

Scotts Head is quickly becoming a centre of Indonesian

language and culture education and we want to give our

whole community a big shout of gratitude as we are all part

of its success and growth.

Thanks, yaarri yaraang, terima kasih.

We fall into two broad groups on the subject of climate change.

Half the people are overwhelmed by the dire predictions of its

effects and can see no solutions. Their response is to deny it is

happening. The other half of us want to do something to lessen

the effects of climate change but don’t really know what to do.

The documentary 2040 provides solutions. Damon Gameau, the

maker of That Sugar Film, travelled the world searching for

solutions that are being tried now, solutions that will be widely

used in 2040.

2040 is a truly inspirational film. It will be shown in Scotts Head.

When: Friday 20 September

Where: LLL Centre at the Scotts Head Public School

Time: 7-8.30 pm showing time followed by discussion

and coffee/tea

Cost: Gold coin donation

Organiser: Michael Blockey
