COME EXPLOREWHAT IS THE EXPERIMENTAL COLLEGE?

The Experimental College (ExCo) is an ASUW business run by full-time students offering a wide range of non-academic, not-for-credit classes. Our classes are open to University of Washington students and the general public, and are taught by both passionate community members and students. Classes take place on the University of Washington campus and around Seattle neighborhoods. We offer a new catalog of courses each quarter. We were founded in 1968 by a group of University of Washington students seeking education in areas outside of the traditional uni-versity environment, and we remain committed to this goal today.

We sing in 4-part harmony with experienced singers and uncertain beginners, music readers and non-readers. My years as a teacher have taught me that joy in singing trumps conventional performance standards. This is a choir in which people are not afraid to make mistakes. The rehearsals are fun and no one gets hurt. Just because your grade school music teacher told you to mouth the words is no reason not to sing out now. Winter quarter we sing at the Green Lake luminaries and do several caroling concerts. There may be additional rehearsals and performance opportu-nities after the quarter ends.
