INTRODUCTION.
The dimensions used in this table are those of
standard test pieces recommended in Bulletin No.
38 of the United States Bureau of Standards.
The tensile strength of rubber is found by divid-
ing the pounds pull registered at the breaking
point by the area cross section of the test piece.
Each page of the table is computed for a
thickness cross section. This dimension is found
at the top of the page and for a range of .120 in.
to .170 in. The first horizontal line contains the
the widths of cross section ranging from .225 in.
to .235 in. The vertical column at the left con-
tains the pounds pull registered at the breaking
point. The other columns contain the tensile
strengths in pounds per square inch.
To find a tensile strength turn to the page
of corresponding thickness of section. In the
column under the width of the section and op-
posite the pounds required to break the test piece
will be found the tensile strength. Thus: Atest piece .134 in. x .232 in. broke at 98 lbs.,
having a tensile strength of 3152 lbs. per sq. in.
On page 15 for thickness .134 in the column under
.232 and opposite 98 will be found tensile strength
3152.
