A TEEN’S WORLD NEW STRATEGIES TO ADDRESS CHALLENGES IN A TEEN’S WORLD SATURDAY, MARCH 2, 2019 | 1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. ACADEMY OF THE SACRED HEART 1250 KENSINGTON ROAD, BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI 48304 SELF-DEFENSE FOR TEENS Teen Girls and Teen Boys will have their own self-defense workshops. Teens will learn self-defense moves and how to pro- tect themselves in social situations. Par- ticipants will engage in hands-on activity to develop personal power in conjunction with strong verbal skills and an under- standing of personal space. Workshops will include strong self-esteem building components and address respect and consent. A must-do workshop for ev- ery teen before leaving the nest! A TEEN’S DIGITAL FOOTPRINT FOR LIFE BEYOND HIGH SCHOOL Cultivating a positive digital footprint is key to a teen’s success. Participants will learn how to manage and create a digital footprint that allows future opportunities to come their way while also taking a deep dive into how social media and gaming can affect the brain and their self-esteem. Practical tips and strategies to keep a healthy balance will be shared. FOR TEENS KEYNOTE ADDRESS: KATEY MCPHERSON From babies to tweens and teens, screens have become a dominant part of our families and schools. As parents and educators, how do we determine: how much is too much? what the social and emotional ramifications are of the access we give? how do we protect kids online as they meander the abyss of fun and exciting activities offered? This session will outline the hidden nuances and dangers of digital access as well as the dilemma of problematic overuse of devices. Practical tips and strategies for balance will be provided as immediate takeaways, to implement in the home and at school.
