The Why of Disruptive Behavior in the Classroom: What Can a Teacher Do to HelpChildren.

Presenter: Mary Beth Simpkin-HichwaThis talk is designed to address practical applications for teachers in the classroom thatconcern disruptive behaviors. The underlying reasons for disruptive behavior will beexplored with applicable strategies to try in the classroom.

2. Wait - What Do You Mean My "New Kid" Doesn't Speak Much English?!?!

Presenter: Susan PaxsonMostly in lecture form, with anecdotes and humor sprinkled in, we will explore theprocesses necessary to create a welcoming classroom environment for English languagelearners. How do we create bridges for children to communicate with one another, howdo/can we communicate with parents, and what resources are available to help?

3. Social Emotional Learning: Building Healthy Relationships. Presenter: Dr. Sara Waring Tiedeman

Children from infancy develop attachments to signigicate others in their immediate socialenvironment. Presenters will share the research behind the importance of socialemotional learning and a free curriculum that can be used by care givers and teachers tohelp children from a very early age have the skills to be successful in life Thepresentation will focus on cooperation, empathy, and effective communication throughgames and activities. Participants will be able to leave with a free Pre-K kit andmaterials.

4. Music, Math & Kitchen MagicPresenter: Anita SchuckertIf you think silly songs at lunchtime and cooking with your kids are recipes fordisaster...think again! Music in early childhood education is so important. Letting kidshelp in the kitchen encourages them to try new foods. Make kid tested cooking andmusic to help with pre-math skills. Cooking + Music = Math (the New Math)!

Presenter: Billie Jo ClausenIn this session, the types of attachment (baby/toddler/child to parent) and bonding(parent/caregiver to child) will be addressed. Attachment is the precursor foundation toexploration and learning! Come ready to talk about impact of attachment (healthy andunhealthy) and learn with me so that we can support kids to better be able to learn.

2. Disruptive Behaviors in Children - Why Do They Happen and What Can We Do?Presenter: Amanda Elliott, DOThis lecture will be useful to teachers working in early childhood education in helping todevelop a better understanding of why children may struggle with behavior in their classroom;what their students and families may be working on to manage it at home, and suggestionsfor management in the classroom.

3. Social-Emotional Health and Wellbeing for K-3 StudentsPresenter: Dr. Brian KingeryParticipants will learn the seven components of social-emotional competence and intellectualhabits. Participants will also optimize learning by actively participating in the presentation interms of the learning progression of each social emotional competence as well as theindicators relevant to each grade level, K-3.Upon returning to their classrooms, buildings, and school districts, participants will be able toimplement their learning with individual students, small groups, and whole class settings.

4. NAMI - Guides for the Ongoing Journey for Caregivers of Children with Mental Health SymptomsPresenters: Vickie Walters & Jamie KreugerCome learn how to advocate for loved ones with mental health symptoms more confidentlyand what resources there are available. Participants will learn why education is important, thetrauma learning module and NAMI Basics Education Program.
