Ultimate Polar Bear Adventure Tour Itinerary Overview – October 16-23, 2020

Day 1 - October 16 - Today we will depart Concord, NH and journey by bus and cross the border into Canada. This afternoon we will fly from Montreal to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Overnight: Inn at the Forks, Winnipeg (PLEASE NOTE: This schedule is subject to change, an overnight stay in Montreal is possible if we are unable to confirm flights to Winnipeg in the late afternoon or early evening). Day 2 - October 17 - Once a fur-trading post and boomtown for the Canadian Pacific Railway, today Manitoba's capital is its cultural and commercial center at the eastern edge of Canada’s vast prairies. Today, we will discover Winnipeg’s rich historic past and its connection to Churchill through the fur trade during a guided city tour.

We’ll also visit the Manitoba Museum - an award-winning heritage and edutainment center featuring a variety of touring and specialty exhibits. The museum is noted for the dramatic walk-through settings among nine spectacular permanent galleries. From the Nonsuch, a replica of a full-size 17th century ship that sailed the world, to the Urban Gallery, a trip back through time to the roaring '20s, to the dramatic Orientation Gallery with its recreation of an early bison hunt, a trip to the museum is a journey through Manitoba's past, present, and future. Overnight: Inn at the Forks, Winnipeg

Day 3 - October 18 – Today we will have additional time for sightseeing and exploration in Winnipeg. A highlight will be a visit to the Assiniboine Park Zoo which features the Journey to Churchill exhibit - one of the world's best Arctic zoo exhibits. Your journey starts with a tour of the 10 acre exhibit, where you'll get unobstructed views of a variety of northern species, including one of Canada's most iconic animals - the polar bear. Then join a member of the animal care team behind the scenes to learn about the care of our arctic species including polar bears, musk ox and snowy owls. You’ll visit the Sea Ice Passage underwater viewing tunnels where polar bears can be found swimming and playing in the water overhead. Overnight: Inn at the Forks, Winnipeg

Day 4 - October 19 – We’ll bid farewell to Winnipeg today when we check in for our chartered flight to Churchill! Marvel in the ever-changing landscape as we fly to the edge of the Arctic. This hospitable frontier town, originally a Hudson's Bay Company fur-trading post, is our base for adventure. We’ll check into our lodge this evening and enjoy an included welcome dinner. (Flight schedule TBA) Overnight: Lazy Bear Lodge, Churchill

Day 5 & 6 - October 20 & 21 – Welcome to the Polar Bear Capital of the World! Churchill is one of the few human settlements where polar bears can be observed in the wild. Each fall, the world’s greatest concentration of polar bears convenes at the edge of Hudson Bay, waiting for the ice to form and their winter seal-hunting season to begin.

During our 3-night stay at the lodge, prepare to be wowed! Each day we’ll explore the amazing Hudson Bay coastline observing the majestic Polar Bear up close and personal. Along the way, look for Arctic Fox, Arctic Hare, Camouflaged Ptarmigan and other wildlife. We’ll also have a Dog Mushing Experience (evening) and a Culture and Heritage Tour of historic Churchill, Manitoba. After each day's adventures, we’ll return home to our cozy wood-fire heated log lodge, sumptuous local cuisine and warm rooms with comfy beds and all the modern amenities.

We’ll have two days of exploration on the Tundra tracking along the coastline in Arctic Crawlers™- custom-built Tundra vehicles - that will take us into the Churchill Wildlife Management Area. We will go to the polar bear gathering spot where the bears wait for

the winter icepack to freeze on the Hudson Bay. Curious and far from shy, the bears will sometimes come right alongside the vehicles to sneak a peek at their visitors.

During our stay at the Lodge, the Cultural and Heritage Tour takes you to Churchill and the surrounding area. You will explore the various historic sites including Cape Merry, the Polar Bear Jail (outside), the famous plane crash site of "Miss Piggy", and many other historic spots that make Churchill the town it is today.

Your Dog Mushing experience includes an approximate 1-2-mile dog mushing ride. The ride will be on sleds if there is snow, and on wheels if there is none. Since the dogs love to run, either ride will be exhilarating! Inside a warm tent with fresh bannock, local berry jam, coffee, hot chocolate and tea, you will learn how the dogs are trained, plus hear many entertaining stories. (Included in cost, but optional - you can relax in the tent or back at the lodge if you choose not to participate).

In Churchill, the Northern Lights can make an appearance about 300 out of 365 days a year, so if weather permits, there may also be an opportunity to see them.

Day 7 - October 22– Today we will bid farewell to Churchill after our final exploration of the area. We will return via our chartered flight to Winnipeg and check into our hotel. Overnight: Airport Hotel, Winnipeg

Day 8 - October 23 – Today we will fly from Winnipeg back to Montreal. Upon arrival we will board our coach for the return trip to New Hampshire. (PLEASE NOTE: This is subject to change, we may fly into an alternate airport if necessary)
