A unique event to promote leadership and innovation in the region
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA25-27 February 2013
On behalf of the Australian Government I invite you to the 2013 Asia Pacific Aviation and Aerospace Leaders’ Summit.
In December 2009 the Australian Government released the first ever aviation policy statement, the National Aviation White Paper, which highlights the importance of the aviation and aerospace industries to Australia’s economy and way of life.
At a time when many aviation markets around the world are struggling, Australian aviation continues to grow with 82 million domestic and international passengers taking to our skies in the past year.
This Summit is timely in light of the recent release of the Australia in the Asian Century White Paper.
It is also a golden opportunity to promote Australia’s aviation industry to the world.
I look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne, Australia.
Yours Sincerely
Minister Anthony Albanese MP Department of Transport and Infrastructure Australian Government
Welcome to the 2013 Asia Pacific Aviation and Aerospace Leaders Summit.
It is appropriate that the summit is being held in Victoria, the home of the aviation and aerospace industries in Australia.
Victoria witnessed the first powered and first passenger flights in Australia and is now the home of the Royal Australian Air Force, Jetstar and Tiger Airlines.
As Australia’s manufacturing hub, Melbourne hosts a range of aerospace companies such as Boeing, as well as local leaders Marand and Rosebank, who make components for the Joint Strike Force project. The Victorian Government sees this industry as central to our economy and strategically important to our region. Our aviation policy focuses on infrastructure development, investment attraction, skills improvement and creating a competitive environment.
That is why we are creating a National Aviation Services precinct right here in Melbourne to co-locate skills development, research, manufacturing and maintenance in a dynamic hub.
This is especially important given that the number of airliners in the Asia Pacific region is predicted to triple to more than 13,000 by 2030 – accounting for a third of new aircraft deliveries worldwide.
The Asia Pacific Aviation and Aerospace Leaders Summit is an important part of addressing commercial and general aviation growth, sustainability, infrastructure, safety and standards which will underpin the success of the aviation and aerospace industries of our region.
Yours Sincerely
The Hon. Gordon Rich-Phillips MLC Deputy Treasurer and Minister Responsible for the Aviation Industry Government of Victorian
Welcome
In this century, the Asia-Pacific region will become home to most of the world’s middle class.
It will be the world’s largest producer of goods and services and the largest consumer of them.
Aviation and aerospace are a fundamental driver of this growth, and a key to regional prosperity.
The 2013 Asia Pacific Aviation and Aerospace Leaders Summit is a unique event to promote industry leadership and innovation in the world’s fastest growing region.
The Summit comes at a time of great challenge and change.
The challenge is to sustain this growth while maintaining the highest standards of environmental management, safety, skills and quality.
The change is how Australia will adapt and focus beyond our shores to find a place in the fastest growing market in the world.
The 2013 Asia Pacific Aviation and Aerospace Leaders Summit follows the release of the Australian Government’s “Australia in the Asian Century” White Paper, and will help promote our world-class industry with opportunities in emerging markets.
It brings together the region’s thought leaders to discuss critical issues, challenges and opportunities, to share experiences and to create new networks and partnerships.
The Summit features speakers from countries including China, India, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Australia, discussing issues such as commercial and general aviation growth, sustainability, infrastructure, safety and standards.
With the generous support of partners including QBE Insurance, KPMG, Swinburne and RMIT Universities, Boeing, Virgin Australia, Melbourne Airport , the Victorian Government, the City of Greater Geelong, La Trobe Regional Airport and ACS Aviation Solutions, the event represents a critical opportunity for Australia’s aviation and aerospace industry to soar in the Asian century.
