• He goes forth one instance and hold back another; sometimes he hastens and sometime he

Sincerity

• On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (RA), whosaid the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Allah(SWT) Says:

“I am Self-Sufficient. I am in no need of having anassociate. Thus he who does an action forsomeone else‟s sake as well as Mine will have

that action renounced by Me in favour of him whom he associated with Me.” (Muslim, IbnMajah).

Sincerity

• Our actions and words, remembrance andthinking, sleep and waking, worship and daily living, love and hatred, giving and withholdingmust be dedicated to Allah (SWT) alone.

“Say (O Muhammad (SAW): verily, my

prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are all or Allah, the Lords of the

Worlds. He has no partner.” (Al- An’am,Q6 vs 162-163)

Following the Prophet (SAW)

• Sincerity of devotion to Allah (SWT) constituteone of the two conditions for actions to beaccepted by Allah (SWT). The second condition

is to follow the examples of the Prophet (SAW).

•  Al-Fudhayl ibn Iyaad said: “the excellent deedsis that which is the most sincere and the most

correct .” he was asked: how is that, O AbulHasan? He said: “the deed which is sincere but not correct will not be accepted. Likewise, thedeed which is correct but not sincere will not be

accepted, until it is both sincere and correct .”

• Look at Bilal defying Umayyah ibn Khalaf, hismaster, saying „ Ahad, Ahad.‟ (He, Allah, is one)despite the burning sand under his abck and theheavy stone on his chest.

•  And here is Khabbab adhering faithfully to thereligion of Allah despite being tortured by redhot iron being applied to every part of his body.

•  And this is the family of Yasir being tortured, and Sumayyah killed, but yet their Iman did not weaken; they steadfastly believed in the promiseof the Prophet (SAW).

• Or is it the the Muhajirun who forsook their wives, cildren and possession, and crossed the desert from

Makkah to Madeenah with no provision apart fromtheir faith, emigrating to Allah and His Messenger(SAW).

•  And look at Abu „Ubaydah slaying his father on theday of the Battle of Badr, and Abu Bakr almostkilling his own son; and Mus‟ab killing his own brother, „Ubayd ibn „Umair.

•  And let us look at the Ansaar reaching out theirhands with a pledge of allegiance to the Prophet(SAW) on the night of al-‟ Aqabah knowing fully wellthe consequence of their actions.

Muhajirun, Allah (SWT) commenting about theirsincerity and faith Says

“Love those who emigrate to them, and have

no jealousy in their breasts for that whichthey have been given, but give them(emigrants) preference over themselves eventhough they were in need of that.” (Al-Hashr,Q59 vs 9)

month until “the eyes grew wild and heartsreached to the throats”  (Q33 vs 10) andsuddenly the faithful, driven by the power of faith and sincerity, cried out: “this is that

which Allah and His Messenger hadpromised us.” (Q33 vs 22).

•  Watch with admiration the thousands of

believers who march out towards Tabuk with theProphet (SAW) in the year of difficulty anddistress, leaving behind the comfort of theirhomes and the ripe fruits, crossing the barren

desert with no more than meagre ration of water

and dry dates, happy to accompany the belovedMessenger of Allah (SAW).

• Now let us return to Madeenah and weep along with those who did not find anything to spend

(on Jihad), nor could Prophet (SAW) providethem with any mounts:

“they turned back, while their eyes were

overflowing with tears for sorrow thatthey could not find anything to spend.” (At-Tawbah, Q9 vs 92).

• Let us walk in the streets of Madeenah, awash with spilled alcohol immediately after the

revelation of the command to forbid itsconsumption:

“O you who believe! Intoxicants, gambling,

al-ansab (stone alters whereuponsacrifices are slaughtered in the name of idols, jinn, angels, saints etc), and al-azlam (divination by arrows) are an

abomination of  Satan’s handiwork. Soavoid (strictly all) that (abomination) inorder that you may be successful.” ( Al-Ma‟idah, Q5 vs 90).

husband, father and brother in the battle of Uhud, said: “how did the Messenger of Allah fare?”   the answer was that he fared well. Whenshe saw him (alive) she said: “ Every

catastrophe, compared to your well being, iseasy to bear.”

• She sacrificed herself to please her Lord andundergo a repentance so pure that it would

suffice to grant  Allah‟s forgiveness to seventy of the people of Madeenah.

•  And here is the noble companion Abu Dharr whoplaced his cheek on the ground and insisted onBilal to step on his other cheek, in repentance forhaving sinned against him by calling him: “O son
