Short Description

The Dish is modelled in the cushion shape and unusually rises to a beaded rim. It is most unusual to find abead edged vegetable dish and the centre is engraved with a shield shaped Armorail. The reverse is very wellmarked and is engraved with its original scratch weight. Fogelberg and Gilbert were a very fine partnershipand Andrew Fogelberg was to go on to train Paul Storr, the finest and most famous of English silversmiths.The dish is in excellent condition and is of a very good weight and gauge.

The Armorial is that of Hill quartering Harwood, both quartering Noel, Lovelace and Wentworth, with acrescent of difference for the second son, for the Hon. William Noel-Hill (1773-1842), later 3rd Baron Berwickof Attingham, politician and diplomat. He succeeded his brother as Baron Berwick on the latters death in1832. He was M.P. for Shrewsbury from 1796 to 1812 and then Marlborough from 1815 to 1818. He served asattache to the British Charges D'affaires in Paris in 1801, for the Peace of Amiens, and was held prisoner for ashort while when hostilities recommenced. He was appointed Ambassador to the Bavarian city of Regensbergin 1805 and then to the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1807. He was subsequently Ambassador to the Kingdom ofthe Two Sicilies at Naples in 1824.
