DR. RYAN W. HOLDER is currently in his 15th year as the Associate Director of Choral Studies at NAU, where he directs the Women’s Chorale and High Altitude vocal jazz ensemble, and teaches undergraduate and graduate conducting, choral arranging, and serves as the adviser for the NAU Student Chapter of ACDA. Dr. Holder has given lectures and presentations at local, state, and regional ACDA and NAfME conventions, including a session on “Male Choir Directors:
Working with and Relating to Beginning Women’s Choirs” at the 2009 ACDA National Convention. His vocal jazz ensembles have performed at state and regional ACDA conferences, and was one of only three vocal jazz ensembles selected to perform at the 2012 Jazz Educators Network Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. Ryan is currently Past-President of AzACDA and was recently awarded Arizona Choir Director of the Year. He is Director of Music at The Church of the Red Rocks in Sedona, and is the founding artistic director of the Sedona Academy of Chamber Singers.
Faculty Conductor
SARAH IRVIN is in her second year of graduate studies at Northern Arizona University in pursuit of a master of music degree in choral conducting where she conducts the University Singers. Originally from Carson City, Nevada, Sarah received her bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2016. After graduation, she taught elementary music and middle school choir in Reno. Sarah directed youth choirs with Sierra Nevada Children’s Choir and has directed
the Junior Boys Choir at Sierra Mountain Music Camp for the past three years. Sarah has performed roles with Nevada Chamber Opera in productions such as The Medium, Le Nozze di Figaro, Suor Angelica, and Iolanthe. Before moving to Flagstaff, she was an active choir member and featured soloist with the Nevada Chamber Singers, University Symphonic Choir, Reno Baroque Ensemble, Nevada Concert Winds, Reno Chamber Orchestra, Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Toccata Tahoe Symphony Orchestra.
JASON DRAHOS is a first-year graduate student at Northern Arizona University pursuing a master of music degree in choral conducting. An Iowa native, he earned his bachelor’s degree in music education from Luther College in Decorah, IA. After graduating, Jason taught music for several years in the international school circuit, conducting school and community choirs of various ages. He was a founding member and conductor of the Muscat Chamber Singers in Muscat, Oman, and has
performed and conducted with the Moscow Oratorio Society in Russia. Currently, Jason conducts the NAU Men’s Chorale and serves as music director for the Master Chorale of Flagstaff and Arizona Mountain Chorale.
ANNE ANDERSON is a senior undergraduate choral music education major at Northern Arizona University. Originally from Apache Junction, Arizona, Anne began ringing handbells in middle school under the direction of international esteemed bellmaster and NAU alumnus, Doug Benton. Anne has appreciated the opportunity to work with the handbells this year and contribute to its rich history. In her time at NAU, Anne has participated in multiple ensembles including the Women’s
Chorale, University Singers, NAU Chamber Singers, Harter M. Memorial Handbell Choir, and the internationally acclaimed Shrine of the Ages choir. In addition to serving as bellmaster, Anne is president of Jacks on Broadway, president of the Delta Eta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, and secretary for the NAU American Choral Directors Association Student Chapter.
