Some spots are now open to joggers and nature lovers, and the plan is to eventually turn it into a fully accessible redeveloped green space for the public. The corridor and its improvement plans are split into the southern, central and northern sections, with each section featuring its unique landmarks and scenery. Here are some highlights. TIMELINE The URA begins consulting public and interest groups on possible improvements to the Rail Corridor. Several sections of the corridor, such as the conserved Bukit Timah Railway Station and its surroundings, are closed for improvement works including heritage restoration and trail works. Nearly 5km of the corridor – between Jalan Kilang Barat and Commonwealth Drive, and between Buona Vista and the Bukit Timah Railway Station – opens after trail improvement works. The national monument is fronted by four large statues representing the four economic pillars of Malaya – commerce, agriculture, transport and industry. The railway station is set to become part of the Circle Line by 2025, with Cantonment MRT station incorporated into it. Bukit Timah Railway Station Originally constructed as a small station to serve the suburban parts of Singapore, this single-storey building follows the style of traditional small-town stations common in the United Kingdom and Malaya in the 1930s. The station is being redeveloped into a multi-use facility. Steel truss bridges The two steel truss bridges were gazetted for conservation by the URA in 2015. They opened in 1932 as part of the then KTM railway line and served as landmarks for decades.
