A Word About the Diocesan Capital Campaign

The campaign is a diocesan-wide effort that will address current and future needs of the diocese and its parishes. For many years, Sacred Heart Catholic Church parishioners have looked forward to having a dedicated sanctuary to worship and conduct vital and traditional Catholic services. With very positive response to the Sacred Heart Capital Campaign Feasibility Study, we are proceeding with the Our Past, Our Present, Our Future Capital Campaign. The campaign theme is representative of the history and hopes of our parish.

Our PastBeginning in the late 1890s, the former country mission church originally stood alongside the railroad tracks in downtown Rowlett. As the parish grew, it became independent in 1985 under the leadership of Reverend Albert Cuschieri. In 1992, a multi-purpose building was dedicated at our current location. Two years later, to preserve the history and connection to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Historic Church was physically moved from downtown Rowlett to its current location. The Historic Church was refurbished by the Knights of Columbus, parishioners and benefactors and is used today for weekday Masses and other parish events. An adjoining nine acres of land west of the original site was purchased in 1996. In the summer of 2007, a modular classroom and office building were installed on the parish grounds – a facility currently used for office space, religious classes, training and meetings.

Historic Church

Our FutureWith continuous growth in the number of parishioners and the limitations for servicing the needs of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Danny Ramos and parish leadership have launched the Our Past, Our Present, Our Future Capital Campaign.

Sacred Heart’s capital campaign is a combined campaign with the Diocese of Dallas Our Faith…Our Future Capital Campaign.

• The Sacred Heart Our Past, Our Present, Our Future Capital Campaign seeks to raise a minimum of $2 million in gifts and pledges.

• A successful campaign will allow for the construction of a dedicated sanctuary with seating capacity for 600-800 people, and the related movement of the Historic Church to a more visible and prominent location on the parish grounds. It will also allow for the repurposing and upgrading of the multi-purpose building, an expanded plaza and additional parking.

• The new building and grounds arrangement will allow us to better utilize the entire parish property.

Site Plan

Our PresentOver the years, our parish has grown tremendously into a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural faith community. Today, we minister to more than 1,200 people during the weekend Masses. Due to this rapid growth, our parish is no longer prepared to accommodate our growing flock. With our existing facilities,

• the worship and liturgy space which accommodates 350 people is no longer sufficient due to our parish growth; weekend masses are filled to capacity, especially on Feast days;

• the foyer area outside the sanctuary is used for attendance overflow; other times, the hallways are filled with parishioners as well;

• handicapped worshippers find it difficult to navigate and fully participate in the liturgy;

• Faith Formation classes are held both in the multi-purpose building and in the modular building; student/parent foot traffic during Sunday classes can be disruptive to worshipers in the main sanctuary and in the foyer overflow;

• administrative offices, Sacristy, and private counseling areas are undersized for the needs and functions of a parish; and

• we have inadequate parking for Masses and services such as Confirmation and First Communion; although additional paved parking was completed in 2014, parking remains inadequate due to our rapid growth.
