> Located in the UK North Sea sector, this was the world’s first SRP to incorporate membrane based pre-filtration. The single lift water injection module incorporates a 252,000BPD sulphate removal plant and has operated with a System Healthcare contract from VWS Westgarth since commissioning in 2006.

> Offshore Angola in Block 18, this multi-module installation is the world’s largest capacity SRP. In addition, the requirement for a sulphate content of <20ppm was also a first. The 415,000BPD SRP together with a 4,530BPD washwater SWRO was commissioned in 2007.

> Onboard FPSO Golfinho II is a single lift module 140,000BPD SRP. Leased by Saipem to Petrobras, and located in the Espirito Santo basin, this installation was commissioned in 2007.

With over 110 years of designing and building water treatment and desalination plants, VWS Westgarth has an impressive track record of water treatment processes. When seawater containing sulphates is injected into subsea wells to enhance oil recovery, scaling of the well formation can occur, as the sulphate in the seawater reacts with barium and strontium in the crude oil.

In 1993, VWS Westgarth produced the world’s first commercial sulphate reduction package. Continuous research and development programmes ensure that we remain world leaders in this field, with more installations than any other supplier.

PRODUCED WATER

Produced water is not a consistent substance. Both the physical and chemical properties of produced water vary widely. For this reason, no two treatment plants are the same and a wide range of equipment can be involved, depending to a large extent on the final disposal route.

VWS Westgarth will design, build and support the specific solution necessary to achieve the required disposal/re-use parameters, bringing together many years experience of both equipment manufacture and site installation.
