OBJECTIVES FOR THIS RESOURCE

At the end of this PowerPoint, students will be able to:

1. Self-assess their work in terms of the A.5.2 Technology Planning assignment goals.

related to information and communication technology. locate and cite research in the field related to this problem, brainstorm and explore possible solutions, develop a policy or procedure for implementing the solution, and construct a presentation (created with a Web 2.0 tool)

to a targeted audience to share your solution to the problem.

TOP PORTION OF THE RUBRIC

SLIS Student’s Name: Every student will turn in a rubric.

Team Members’ Names: List all team members’ name.

Problem Statement: This should be a complete sentence.

Audience for Presentation: Be specific. (Example: Elementary School Librarians rather than

school librarians)

TOP PORTION OF THE RUBRIC - CONTINUEDProject Homepage: This is the page where students

have copied, pasted, and completed the graphic organizer. Why not provide a shortened URL? Make sure the link works!

Presentation Tool: Name the Web 2.0 tool or software you used to create your final product. Remember: No PowerPoint unless it is combined with another tool.

Ex: We used Microsoft Word to create our infographic because it will be copied in black and white on 8 ½ X 11 inch paper.

Final Product URL: If you can embed your product on your wiki page, do so. You should also link it.

GROUP POINTS: COLLABORATION

Collaboration(Timely Beginning)

Partners create their wiki pages and post the URL to BBW. They begin their wiki collaboration in Module 4.2 as evidenced by the wiki history page.

All partners posted the names of their collaborator(s) on the BB Wiki Project Partnerships Page.

In order to earn full points, you and your partner(s) needed to begin your collaborative wiki work before 11/11/13.

The wiki history will show that everyone on the team contributed by that date.

Page 7: A.5.2: TECHNOLOGY PLANNING SELF-CHECK SUPPORT For Students in LS5043: Information and Communication Technology Fall 2014 Judi Moreillon, M.L.S., Ph.D

GROUP POINTS: COLLABORATION

Communication Wiki Page(Negotiation and Collaboration)

Team members document the negotiations on the A.5.2 Communication wiki page (determined by reviewing the page history). Partners engage in rich negotiations that suggest careful planning.

In order to earn full points, you and your partner(s) must document your collaborative conversations. The wiki history should show communication occurred over time.

Rich negotiations may include multiple communication tools and in-depth conversations during which your team discussed the problem, explored solutions, sought feedback from audiences, determined a solution, and developed a final product targeted to a specific audience. See our wiki Collaboration page example at: http://tinyurl.com/collab4srpc

Page 8: A.5.2: TECHNOLOGY PLANNING SELF-CHECK SUPPORT For Students in LS5043: Information and Communication Technology Fall 2014 Judi Moreillon, M.L.S., Ph.D

GROUP POINTS: COLLABORATIONTechnology Planning Graphic Organizer

The graphic organizer is available on the wiki homepage and is complete and thorough.

In order to earn full points, your graphic organizer must include dates and details. You may use links to other wiki pages to indicate the location of some information/details.

Be sure that all partners have contributed. Using different font colors makes this clear. I will also check the wiki history.

You may list and cite ALA, AASL, ACRL, ALSC, or YALSA competencies.

Example: Since our work involved public library services to children, we listed and cited ALSC competencies. See our complete and thorough graphic organizer at: http://tinyurl.com/collab4srph

Page 9: A.5.2: TECHNOLOGY PLANNING SELF-CHECK SUPPORT For Students in LS5043: Information and Communication Technology Fall 2014 Judi Moreillon, M.L.S., Ph.D

GROUP POINTS: COLLABORATION

Brainstorming Partners contribute to a Web 2.0 tool brainstorm and indicate their contributions by using different font colors or labeling. The brainstorm is linked to the Communication page. The team’s contributions show especially rich and thoughtful conversations and negotiations.

You must use a Web 2.0 tool for brainstorming. Team members’ contributions must be labeled or color coded. The planning brainstorm must include details. If your tool can be embedded on the page, you must do so (to earn full points). Also include a working link to your brainstorm so it can be easily viewed.

Example: We used Popplet. Each of us labeled our popple contributions and color coded them as well. We embedded and we linked our Popplet: http://tinyurl.com/collab4srpc

GROUP POINTS: TECHNOLOGY PLANNING PRESENTATION

Content:Problem

The problem is clearly explained. There is a strong rationale for the importance of addressing this problem

The wiki and/or the presentation must clearly explain the problem.

Example: We included the problem statement and research summary (rationale) on the wiki research page: http://tinyurl.com/collab4srpr

The elementary school librarian audience for our infographic will understand our message: collaboration for reaching out into the community to support the public library’s summer reading program

Page 11: A.5.2: TECHNOLOGY PLANNING SELF-CHECK SUPPORT For Students in LS5043: Information and Communication Technology Fall 2014 Judi Moreillon, M.L.S., Ph.D

GROUP POINTS: TECHNOLOGY PLANNING PRESENTATION

Audience The partners align the stated audience, all content and the presentation tool with the audience. Partners seek input from the target audience or other stakeholders. The presentation content and tool must be aligned with the

needs of the audience. Seeking input from the target audience is therefore essential.

Example: The elementary school librarian audience provided us with feedback via a survey: http://tinyurl.com/collab4srps

The one-page (8.5 X 11) black and white infographic is something that school and public librarians can afford to duplicate and append to various promotional materials.

GROUP POINTS: TECHNOLOGY PLANNING PRESENTATION

We color coded our contributions to the research page. GROUP POINTS: TECHNOLOGY PLANNING PRESENTATION

Example: All of this information (human and financial resources) is found on or clearly linked from our policy page: http://tinyurl.com/collab4srpp

GROUP POINTS: TECHNOLOGY PLANNING PRESENTATION

Content: Policy, Procedure, or Products

The presentation includes a well-developed policy or procedure, or carefully selected products (with reviews) that will ensure that the solution to the problem is implemented. This aspect of the presentation is original. This criterion will look different based on the various problems

we solved. The keyword in this criterion is ORIGINAL.

Example: Our timeline is our step-by-step procedure. http://tinyurl.com/collab4srpt

GROUP POINTS: TECHNOLOGY PLANNING PRESENTATION

This criterion will look different based on the audiences we targeted and the various problems we solved. The keyword in this criterion is PERSUASIVE.

Example: We have presented our final product as a p.df file and it is linked to a wiki page as well: http://tinyurl.com/collab4srpfinal

We decided to include just two entries in our references because we determined they were the most audience friendly. (The titles of these articles/studies offer a quick snapshot of their findings.) We provided an email contact and would be happy to provide additional references for anyone who is interested. Our references are on our research page.
